Error: physical layout false, rawOrder false and an area does not work well together

I had baloo file indexer disabled for hibernation reasons, but I just enabled it again for testing with balooctl6 enable and got the following errors displayed in the terminal window (after the command had completed). I can’t seem to find any info on them. Anyone know what this is about?

qt.qpa.services: Failed to register with host portal QDBusError("org.freedesktop.portal.Error.Failed", "Could not register app ID: App info not found for 'org.kde.baloo'")
"Error: physical layout false, rawOrder false and an area does not work well together"

It’s possible your identical KDE Discuss question will generate better responses than the forum, currently.

Although with the type of error, it might be prudent to report a possible bug directly to KDE:

Otherwise, please provide your system information as described (below) and take the gamble that a Community member may have a clue:

[Mini-HowTo] Provide System Information

Basic details provided by *-fetch type apps might give enough information for someone wishing to buy a computer, however, for Support purposes it’s best to ask your system directly.

Output of the inxi command will generate more useful and detailed information for those who may wish to help:

Suggested inxi command (use either):

inxi -zv8 (short-form)
inxi --filter --verbosity=8 (long-form)

Command output should be presented as pre-formatted text in accordance with forum guidelines. :eyes:

Running inxi within a chroot environment

  • Add --color=0 to the long-form command, or…
  • Change the short-form command to inxi -zv8c0

They don’t accept bug reports for old versions which is why I posted here (and in the official KDE forum). Especially because extensive searching provided no hits for the displayed error:

— Comment #1 from Bug Janitor Service <bug-janitor@kde.org> —

Thank you for the bug report!

However Plasma 6.5.5 no longer receives updates or maintenance from KDE; active
versions are 6.6 or newer. Please upgrade to an active version as soon as your
distribution makes it available to you. Plasma is a fast-moving project, and
bugs in one version are often fixed in the next one.

If you need help with Plasma 6.5.5, please contact your distribution, who bears
the responsibility of providing help for older releases that are no longer
receiving updates from KDE.

If you can reproduce the issue after upgrading to an active version, feel free
to re-open this bug report.

Your system is out-of-date, as Stable branch is currently on kernel 6.19.8-1. So, try updating your system first, and see if the issue persists after rebooting.

If it does, then purging the baloo database may fix the issue. If you have not had baloo running for a while, then maybe the database format or layout has changed since then, and the newer version of baloo is having issues with the older database.

balooctl6 purge

will clear the database, and baloo will then create a new one & re-index your files.

I reported the issue prior to that version becoming available.

I also can’t reproduce the issue and cannot track down exactly what caused it. I don’t know if the repeating errors following the first error are related to the first or if they were coincidental. I presume they’re related as they all appeared within a few seconds of each other.

I’m trying to get an idea of what caused the errors so I can go investigate further and report it to the right place.

The first error is a common error appearing in system logs recently which most people have said to just ignore.

Thanks for the reminder: I had tried purging the database, rebuilding the database, enabling and disabling baloo numerous times trying to get the error to appear again but have had no luck in reproducing it. The fact the errors displayed in a terminal at all is a problem that should have been caught and sent to the system or other log. The command had finished and a prompt had been displayed for perhaps a minute before these errors appeared.
