error: file owned by 'grub' and 'grub-efi-i386'

During my resent pacman and yaourt update attempts (-Syu), I have received errors about grub-efi-i386 which I have been unable to resolve. This is a 64bit bios laptop, not uefi. Specifically a dell latitude D630 core2duo circa 2009.

error: missing 'grub-common=2.00' dependency for 'grub-efi-i386'
error: file owned by 'grub' and 'grub-efi-i386': 'usr/lib/grub/i386-efi/acpi.mod'
error: file owned by 'grub' and 'grub-efi-i386': '...

The error list of individual files is very long.(everything in that directory)
I tried deleting the directory /usr/lib/grub and then reinstalled grub but the problem persists.
Current version of grub-2.03.6-4
Kernel 4.4.183-1-MANJARO x86_64 (I was having issues with 4.14 and 4.19)

If you can boot, at terminal, print out for us first..

ls /etc/grub.d

Continue..

sudo pacman -R grub
sudo mv /etc/default/grub /etc/default/grub.old
sudo mv /etc/grub.d /etc/grub.d.old
sudo pacman -S grub
sudo grub-install
sudo update-grub

If you cannot boot, use this to boot and do the above (+ printing ls /etc/grub.d).

Or do you want me to print the contents of each file?
[edid] Booting works just fine, the problem is in system updates.

No, that's fine.

Continue then. (note I edited above with 'sudo grub-install /dev/sda')
When finished with commands above, let us know if system updates still have error.

If you still have error, provide..

test -d /sys/firmware/efi && echo UEFI || echo BIOS
sudo parted -l
findmnt -s
