Error: file `/boot/vmlinuz-5.10-x86_64' not found

I get this error when trying to boot into any of my installed kernels:

error: file `/boot/vmlinuz-5.10-x86_64’ not found

Hello @jamesray

Then for any reason it was not generated. This command should do it:

sudo mkinitcpio -P

You interrupted the update process, didn’t you? :stuck_out_tongue:

Okay, boot up from the install medium in live mode, be it a USB stick or a CD/DVD. Any recent Manjaro live session will do, so long as you’re booting in the same mode as the installed system ─ i.e. if the installed system boots in UEFI mode, then the live medium should also be booted in UEFI mode, and if the installed system boots in legacy BIOS mode, then the live medium should also be booted in legacy BIOS mode.

In the GUI environment, open up a terminal window and type the following commands…

sudo su -
manjaro-chroot -a

If applicable, enter the number that corresponds with your Manjaro installation. Now issue the following commands…

pacman-mirrors -f 5 && pacman -Syyu
update-grub
exit

It should now be safe to reboot your computer, but make sure you remove the USB stick or CD/DVD in time.

can you check also

sudo mhwd-kernel -li
sudo ls /etc/mkinitcpio.d/*.preset

Sorry for the delayed response. I switched back to using the pre-existing Windows install with my dual boot. I have two ManjaroLinux systems, how can I tell which is the right one?

Don’t you know your own computer and which Manjaro system you’ve installed where?

I do, but I am not sure which one corresponds to ManjaroLinux and ManjaroLinux1, presumably the first and second Manjaro partitions

Yes, they will be ordered as they are discovered.

OK, thanks, just wanted to be sure.

Just ran manjaro-chroot -a and selected the first one, and confirmed that it corresponded to the one installed on the first partition that I wanted.

I’m getting a dependency error: error: dbus-python and python2-dbus are in conflict. If I don’t remove python2-dbus, I get error: unresolvable package conflicts detected. And if I do opt to remove it, I get error: failed to prepare transaction (could not satisfy dependencies) :: removing python2-dbus breaks dependency python2-dbus required by calise.

This is the full output:

//EDIT: also you didn’t update since 6 months?

duh!

Assuming calise isn’t important, not that I use it.

I am fairly sure that I have updated several times in the past 6 months.

There is no package by that name in either the regular Manjaro repositories or the AUR, but the AUR does have a package called pyautobrightness, of which the description reads…

Pyautobrightness is a very simple “Calise like” program, wrote in python 3, designed to change the screen brightness using the webcam as “light sensor”.

It just occurred to me that I may have chrooted into the older partition. It is taking a long time to update, much longer than it normally took. I will soon find out!

The upgrade failed.

I’ll try chrooting into the other partition and doing the same, I’m guessing that’s the more recently used one.

Yes, the second Linux partition is the most recently used one (confirmed using ls and looking at the files).

This is chrooted in the second partition:
