Error: file /boot/initramfs-6.1-x86_64.img not found - assistance appreciated

Hi there.

I was trying to update my system earlier & was having problems - I then decided to reboot & try again. When I rebooted, I received the message: “error: file /boot/initramfs-6.1-x86_64.img not found”…Press any key to continue…

When I press any key, nothing happens - it looks frozen & I have to do a hard reboot.

I have been searching for a solution but haven’t found anything that makes sense. This is my main work machine which has been solid as a rock for 6 years. Fortunately I have a laptop I can work on meantime.

Any assistance would be appreciated.

Thanks, Ruziel

EDIT - I tried rebooting with an older kernel - 5.15 - and it booted in perfectly. 6.6 & 6.1 suddenly don’t work…

sudo mkinitcpio -P
sudo update-grub

should fix this

There could be more issues when the update was only partially done - you should run it again and have it finish:
sudo pacman -Syu

hi @Nachlese - thank you for your generous response - i ran it & got “error: failed to synchronize all databases (failed to retrieve some files)” & 404 errors.

i have no idea how this started - i’ve never experienced it on this machine to this level. thanks

Could you share the full original output?
Does it perhaps mention something about the community repo not found?

You could refresh the list of mirrors from which the updates are downloaded.

sudo pacman-mirrors -f

Did you run the first two commands?
Are all your kernels back in the boot menu?

Hi Nachlese. Thanks for your help. The commands you suggested definitely helped. I then noticed while searching online that my issue may be related to something that I should have done 2 years ago, when repositeries were moved.

I will suggest on a comment on the latest update that it be made clearer to newbies just how important this is.

My system is running better but my system now shows as up to date, even tho I have refreshed my mirror list.

Thanks, R
