Enabling external keyboard backlight with Mouse Keys

It lights up when I enter xset led on and turns the numpad to mouse keys, but after a couple of minutes of not using the keyboard it just disable mouse keys automatically and turns to a standard numpad. It only comes back when I set led on again.
