Display manager returns to login screen

I am running Manjaro 25.0.0 on Kernel x86_64 Linux 6.675-Manjaro. I have my system configured to run XFCE. The system boots to the login screen but after entering credentials, goes black and come back to the login screen.
When I log in through ssh or a local tty, the only thing I see in .xsession-errors is:

Environment variable $DISPLAY not set, ignoring.
Environment variable $XAUTHORITY not set, ignoring.

I haven’t changed anything since the last time I booted other than running a full system upgrade.

I am guessing that the display manager isn’t starting up. Good guess? What to look for? How to fix?

Thanks,
Bill

Check if there is enough space after upgrading your system. Lightdm (Login-Manager) on XFCE don’t like not having space on the root file system: Free up space.

Unfortunately, probably not a space problem… this system has a 250GB disk with 75GB free. Any other ideas?

Thanks!

I am a dope. And I have a bad memory. I ran into a problem like this before and completely spaced on it. It is a problem with my VNC setup, which I thought I fixed oh so many months ago.

I apologize for taking up air time on this.
