Diagnosing Kernel Issues (Motherboard USB-C Headset Issue)?

I have a USB mic that terminates in a USB-C connector. It is plugged into the back of my motherboard’s USB-C slot and registers fine with the OS, except that the microphone component is missing.

ONLY when I unplug and replug it into the back of the motherboard (kind of a pain for a desktop) does the mic reappear. Restarts ony show the headphones of the headset. Is this a kernel issue / bug? If it is, how can I report it?

As far as methodology, what is the appropriate response in this case? Switch to LTS kernel assuming it works?

I’m running the current 5.15.12-1 kernel which isn’t LTS.

Considering that you’ve had USB issues before with this machine, I’d say it’s more likely to be a hardware problem. Either the UEFI firmware is buggy ─ have you checked for an update at the ASUS website? ─ or the motherboard itself is flawed.

This does unfortunately happen, due to the ever larger growing holes in the quality control safety nets as a result of increased or accelerated mass production. I myself have already had it happen with a shockingly large amount of devices and peripherals, and some of those came from reputed manufacturers.

Have you tried another kernel? That should have been the first thing to check. :face_with_raised_eyebrow:

Actually, it is. It just hasn’t been listed as such yet in the Manjaro Settings Manager. 5.15 is officially an LTS.
