that will install it, also you have pamac (package manager) that can be used as a gui or cli

now that you got manjaro up and running, do some reading on getting started. linux is not windows nor does it strive to be. Manjaro is a great place to learn, just dont become a HELP VAMPIRE.

now would be a great time to backup with timeshift as rsync, its idiot proof and you can set it to make backups at regular intervals automatically, if you fubar your setup and cant figure out how, it will restore you to an earlier point and problems be gone! just try not to use it as a first option, you want to be able to learn how to fix instead of hitting the reset button. gnome may come with it installed, if not its in pamac/pacman

Thank you very much for all of your help. You’ve been more than helpful and I have learned a lot. I feel more comfortable in terminal for sure. I’ll try and figure out the resolution and modesetting issues. I will load a game and see how the performance is working and if all is good, reinstall on the main drive to get rid of windows. Now that I have got it working, i am sure I can tackle it again. I always do a lot of searching to try and fix a problem, but as you mentioned, there often seems to be either too much or too little information. Luckily, with the exception of this laptop, things work much better on linux than they used to with far fewer crashes. Once I get the full installation complete will install rsync.

no problem, if you do happen to move your manjaro install from your hdd to your ssd (you cant use dd, or filezilla,among others) to clone a larger drive to a smaller one without really screwing it up. i wrote an easy to follow tutorial on how to do it using timeshift (after i already learned the hard way).

or you could just re-install and deal with optimus again, things tend to get easier and easier the more you screw up doing them, i know this well. :sunglasses:

Thanks, I figured I will start off with a clean installation. Now that I know the process and the mistakes I made, I should be able to get it working again. Want to try and fix the resolution issue so I can have everything running at full performance before I switch. I will probably also install i3 on this computer to play around with it more and decide which one I want to install for the full install.

you can install all of them if you really want to, resize during install, it will use the efi and swap you already have and create another ext4 partition for i3/kde/xfce/etc… i just started using kde a few days ago and i kept my gnome install since i have it the way i like it
