Should get rid of Nvidia cards?

I bought my GTX 970 in 2015. At that time, all games in Steam were labeled “Nvidia only” and there was a lot of text that AMD drivers were very bad.

But times change and now I see a lot of good reviews about the free AMDGPU, at the same time Nvidia not only remains proprietary, but also does nothing for Linux.

I am not using CUDA.
Perhaps OpenCL can come in handy for me sometimes.
The performance of the GTX 970 still suits me (besides, if take something new then need to change the CPU, motherboard…).

Should I change my graphics card to a similar in performance from AMD?

Hello, this topic could become a flame war Nvidia/AMD.

I’m not a specialist performance wise but yes, you’ll avoid future hassle in Linux opting for AMD GPU.

Personnaly, my future laptop to replace my 2011 one will more certainly be an AMD combo CPU/GPU.

Exactly, and product recommendations are against the forum rules ─ unless it’s about Manjaro hardware, of course. :stuck_out_tongue:

@Ros, I’m sorry but I’m going to have to close this topic. :white_flag:
