Crash where OS and programs inside of Monitor 1 become unresponsive, but monitor 2 remains totally unaffected

Having a crash i can’t figure out. I’m usually playing a game when this happens; the game will freeze leading to my whole primary monitor becoming completely frozen and unresponsive, however, my second monitor remains totally fine and responsive. Using steam to close the game seems to do the trick, however it seems to be happening more and more with multiple games. I’m thinking it must be a KDE thing, but I’m unsure at this point.

I’ve had a look through the logs the last several times this has happened and nothing stands out to me. Would really appreciate any help as this has happened as often as twice within a day so far.

Hello and welcome to the Manjaro Community!

It will be helpful if you include your inxi output; we always ask for this on support topics as e.g. we’ll know if you are using Wayland or x11 (this might make the difference):

inxi -zv8

Note: The output is filtered for privacy when using this command.

Paste between three backticks ``` or three tildes ~~~, on their own lines above and below the pasted text, like this:

.```
Pasted text from the Terminal

.```
… as this formats the output for the Forum.

It’s also important you select all the text from the Terminal (inclusive of the command) as it’s easy to miss some.

Cheers!

Hey thanks, and thanks for the advice. I’ve used the inxi -zv8 command and the output is as follows:

  inxi -zv8

Does the problem also occur in a Plasma Wayland session?

You can change your Plasma session from X11 to Wayland by selecting the session type at the login screen (Wayland is the default for Plasma).

If you have set up autologin to skip the password screen, you can change to a Wayland session by opening System Settings → Colors & Themes → Login Screen (SDDM) → Behavior.

I haven’t tried Wayland yet, but I’ve been meaning to. I’ll use Wayland for a couple of days and if it occurs I will let you know.

Wayland received many multiscreen features and fixes, while X11 bugs are now being marked with “X11-only” on KDE bug tracker, they are filtered to be closed as “RESOLVED UNMAINTAINED” when they remove support for the X11 session.

The reality is that Plasma’s X support is on life support, and most X11-specific bugs will never be fixed. I’m just being honest with you here rather than stringing you along by pretending that something might happen when it won’t.
