I’ve finally completed my prescription and I’m happy to report that I’m gradually becoming able to think straight again. The prescription consisted of a rather high dose of commonly prescribed antibiotics, so it wasn’t something unusual. However, I’ve been taking the antibiotics for quite a long time, so something strange inevitably came out of it and, unfortunately, has made me unable to think straight.
The above-mentioned medical test will be performed in about half a week, and I really, really hope to receive a clean bill of health.
Bad news, unfortunately. The medical test results weren’t good and I just got another prescription. More antibiotics and more inability to think straight. D’oh!
Here’s an update, which I have to write this way because only up to three consecutive replies by the same person are allowed in a thread.
The last prescription has been completed and another medical test has been performed, and woo-hoo, I’ve finally received a clean bill of health!
That makes me so happy and, thankfully, I can finally relax a bit and start working on regaining my physical strength. It’s been almost exactly three months since my health issues started, and doing virtually no exercises and literally no weight lifting for the last three months has made my really, really weak, even to the point where sometimes I could barely walk outside.
I’m hoping I’ll be able to get back in shape fairly quickly. I’ll be so happy if I manage to make that happen in the next couple of weeks, or even by the end of this month, but I simply have to go slowly.
How are you feeling & have you been able to work on the patch? In latest release phosh beta 33 sadly the extra patch was lost, meaning installing or updating to the release people once again are without cpuidle for now. A proper implementation would prevent such issues as it would always be by default included.
Thank for checking. The original health issue is now officially gone, thankfully, but I’m still feeling weird. As an unfortunate result of the whole ordeal and the long-lasting prescriptions, I’m quite far from being back to my normal state, both physically and mentally. i’m simply still messed up and, unfortunately, unable to focus on things that involve substantial complexity.
Combine all that with the fact that I’ve been lifting weights heavily for the last ten years or so, pretty much every second day, which has been reduced to zero abruptly three months ago, and you’ll get a better picture. All that has shocked my entrire body and mind, and has made me really, really weak and unable to function properly.
I think I’ll have to regain my physical strength first, which will probably be a rather slow and gradual process, and I hope that my mind will follow suit. I’ll try to get there ASAP, and believe me, I’m really looking forward to that.
As soon as I’m back to my normal state, I’ll be all over the proper implementation of the CPUIDLE device tree amendments, together with many other smaller and larger projects involving different kinds of Pine64 hardware.
Just wanted to let you know that I’m finally, and thankfully, returning to my original state, after almost four and a half months of various stages of sickness.
I’ve submitted a few util-linux patches upstream and they were accepted a few days ago, and my plan is to submit more coreutils patches upstream, then a few smaller Linux kernel patches, and then to start working on the PinePhone CPUIDLE patches.
Of course, we’ll have the CPUIDLE patches tested in detail before I submit them upstream, and we can also include additional “Tested-by” signatures in the patches, if you agree. That should also help with TF-A and U-Boot accepting the patches, which is especially important for the rather strict review process employed by TF-A.
Yes, it would be identical to the way Linux kernel patches are signed, i.e. it would require the real name and real email address. I totally understand your privacy concerns, it’s fine with me if you want to remain invisible, so to speak.
I forgot to ask do you have access to the serial console of your PinePhone, i.e. do you have a USB UART adapter that uses 3.3 V on the TX and RX lines and has the appropriate wiring so it can be plugged into the PinePhone’s TRRS audio port? You’ll need such an adapter do to proper testing of the patches. If you need some advice to cobble together an appropriate USB UART adapter, I’m here to help.
you did not forgot to ask it, as you did so very much earlier in the thread, sadly i don’t have it as it was not available to buy with the pp using same postage. I would pay over 30 euros just for that cable including shipping from pine. If you can point me to some compatible generic one available for ~5 i am all ears.
edit: i have some kind of usb-uart? adapter i used to hack my seagate HDD many years ago. I guess connecting those wires to a 3,5mm plug in the correct way could work? Anyhow. i don’t think you want to hand-hold me through setting that up.
Oh, sorry, I even searched the thread to see if I already asked you about the serial console. I guess I should’ve searched the thread better.
Sure, ordering a USB UART adapter from Pine64 separately is prohibitively expensive due to the shipping costs. Luckily, an appropriate adapter be cobbled together for much less, using parts that should be available locally in many countries.
I’ll use Amazon.de to point out what parts should be needed:
Generic USB UART adapter with the CH340G chip and 3.3 V support, virtually identical to the Pine64 “Woodpecker” USB UART adapter; about 6 EUR
Screw-down TRRS jack, in form of a breakout with a four-screw terminal block; about 4 EUR, but can probably be found for way less
Some ribbon cables, if you don’t want to cut the short jumper cables bundled with the above-linked USB UART adapter; about 9 EUR, which is ridiculously expensive unless you need a whole bunch of ribbon cable jumpers for more projects later, otherwise you can use some random cable leftovers
Of course, you don’t have to buy the above-linked TRRS jack and cables if you already have some ready-made cable with a molded TRSS jack, e.g. a cable from an old headset, although such headset cables are usually really hard to work with due to their unique construction that’s made to resist flexing.
Regarding the USB UART adapter you used to connect to the serial console exposed by some Seagate HDDs (which is a nice project, by the way), it may be used for the PinePhone if it supports 3.3 V on the TX and RX lines. Perhaps you could check the supported voltages, or maybe even send a picture of that adapter?
Are there any jumpers for voltage selection on the USB UART adapter you already have? The best way to check the voltage is to simply plug the adapter into a USB port, even a USB charger would work perfectly for that purpose, and then measure the voltage on the adapter’s TX pin while the adapter is in idle state. If it measures 3.3 V, you’re good to go and try connecting it to the serial console of your PinePhone.
By the way, only the TX, RX and GND pins are used for the PinePhone’s serial console. It’s the same as with the Seagate HDD’s serial console.
thank you very much, i feel stupid for not googling if it is available information, sorry. This is just so esoteric ■■■■ i did not expect it to be commonly available, but with pp it of course is different.
well, i ordered a stereo plug 1,2 euros delivered, tomorrow i will take a look in to my storage and see if i can find one quicker in there, or just to wait.
Sounds like a reasonable price for a stereo jack delivered at your doorstep. I’d guess that the shipping actually costs more than the jack itself.
You’re welcome, I’m glad to help.
Edit: Actually, we can later point people to this thread, when someone wants to cobble together a USB UART adapter for their PinePhone or Pinebook Pro. It’s all publicly available information, of course, but it’s sometimes hard to find quickly.
In my country shipping an envelope with the jack inside to my neighbour would cost about 5 euros. Somehow i can order it from china, with VAT and taxes paid, for 1,2e shipping included !?
If i were to locally source a stereo jack i would pay at least 3 euros without shipping. Probably closer to 5 euros because the one i bought was a premium version.
