Connecting 2 external monitors on laptop using DiplayLink driver gives control process exited with error code

I want to connect 2 external monitors to my laptop.

Unfortunately, my USB-C port does not support video. System: Host: alpha-nitroan51543 Kernel: 5.10.15-1-MANJARO x86_64 bits: 64 co - Pastebin.com

They also told me that a HDMI splitter won’t do the job.

That’s why I have to use a docker station with a DisplayLink driver.

I managed to install displaylink from AUR, but when I try to run it with sudo systemctl start displaylink.service I get :

Job for displaylink.service failed because the control process exited with error code.
See "systemctl status displaylink.service" and "journalctl -xe" for details.

systemctl status displaylink.service gives me:

displaylink.service - DisplayLink Manager Service
Loaded: loaded (/usr/lib/systemd/system/displaylink.service; disabled; vendor preset: disabled)
Active: activating (auto-restart) (Result: exit-code) since Sat 2021-02-13 18:38:18 AWST; 1s ago
Process: 2520 ExecStartPre=/sbin/modprobe evdi (code=exited, status=1/FAILURE)

While journalctl -xe gives me:

The job identifier is 3357 and the job result is done.

Any ideas please?

That depends: If you want mirrored screens, a powered HDMI duplicator will do the trick

Which docking station are you using because you indeed have a 3rd display adapter:

Device-3: Quanta HD User Facing type: USB driver: uvcvideo bus ID: 1-1:2 chip ID: 0408:a061 class ID: 0e02

If the above is correct, at what point in this excellent manual are you getting stuck?

Thank you for the reply. As I said, I can’t start the displaylink.service . That’s #2 in the guide.

systemctl start displaylink.service
Job for displaylink.service failed because the control process exited with error code.
See "systemctl status displaylink.service" and "journalctl -xe" for details.

I’m trying to use a Dell docking station D6000, even though my laptop is Acer, the docking station I feel should just work with no problems, as it uses DisplayLink. Nevertheless, the problem (being unable to run the DisplayLink service in my laptop) is not related to the model of the docking station.

I should also add the output of the following command in case it is useful.

xrandr --listproviders
Providers: number : 2
Provider 0: id: 0x55 cap: 0xf, Source Output, Sink Output, Source Offload, Sink Offload crtcs: 4 outputs: 2 associated providers: 1 name:AMD Radeon(TM) Vega
8 Graphics @ pci:0000:05:00.0
Provider 1: id: 0x83 cap: 0xf, Source Output, Sink Output, Source Offload, Sink Offload crtcs: 5 outputs: 0 associated providers: 1 name:AMD Radeon (TM) RX
Graphics @ pci:0000:01:00.0

I don’t have a modesetting provider as the manual writes, even though I have installed the driver as shown in the photo below

Found the solution to my problem. I had to install evdi from AUR. Unfortunately, evdi-git failed to install, but the regular evdi package did. Afterward, I was able to continue the Arch Wiki manual and successfully got the second external monitor to work.
