Computer freezing about twice a week

How often does your computer(Manjaro) lock up or freeze when the pointer thing stops moving and no keys seem to function? I have a new install on a new laptop. It freezes about twice a week now so I am wondering if my computer is sick or does Linux/Manjaro just jam occasionally? Is the only thing to do SHUTDOWN at the power button?

You could provide your hardware info so that we can help you diagnose the problem.

You’re using a kernel that is no longer supported.

This is interesting news
I downloaded from Manjaro.org 2 weeks ago.

Tip: When pasting terminal output on Discourse forums, one can either…

  • Use the Preformatted text </> toolbar button.

  • Add three backticks ` above and below the text (Markdown):

    ```
    type or paste code here
    ```

  • Use HTML:

    <pre><code>
    type or paste code here
    </pre></code>

I’ve done it for you this time. :wink:

Interesting. First i’ve got the same problem with Manjaro unstable, then reinstalled to Manjaro stable annnnd got the same stutter > total lock up (desktop apps suddenly crashes, can not save opened files, everything lags, after counted seconds it freezes and the only thing to do is to turn off by pressing power button. even tty won’t change by pressing ctrl+alt+f2). Dualboot on win works fine.

In my jornalctl log there were many “kernel: BUG: kernel NULL pointer dereference, address:” messages. I’ve installed unsupported nvidia driver (470) for my video card, so just uninstalled everything with “nvidia” and installed again default (390). Well, it seems that helps, cause now for 3-4 hours i get no stutter and freezing.

I really don’t know if it’s the same problem, but my suggestion would be to reinstall with mhwd your Nvidia driver to see if that helps.

Some logs of my configuration.
