I have three PCs with very different hardware where Manjaro is installed.
Due to RAM limitations, one of them is running Manjaro XFCE when the two others are running Manjaro KDE.
On one of my builds under Manjaro KDE, I tend to have crash during system updates that I need to dig into (will do later, when I have time…).
At the moment, on this build, I managed to save myself various times chrooting in the system from a Ventoy USB key to finalize the update.
My question is :
Is is necessary to Chroot using the Manjaro ISO corresponding to the Manjaro installed on the system needing repair ?
Or any Manjaro version is OK as the chroot acts using the pacman manager and files configuration of the system that was chrooted ?
According to the answer, I will decide if I keep both Manjaro XFCE and KDE ISOs on the Ventoy USB key or if I can free space up on it (yes, it is a small key…).
Thanks for your reply !
Edit :
Case solved thanks to the post #2 sent by cscs.
Also read through the post #4 of Nachlese which provides useful additional information.
Thanks to both of you!
The package manager doesn’t have anything to do with it - after chroot you are literally inside your system, no matter how you got there.
You could use Debian or Ubuntu or … anything relatively recent.
I guess the answer proposed by cscs should be declared as the Solution, answering perfectly the initial question asked.
However,
Your addition, Nachlese, is also very useful.
As only one Solution, can be declared, what do you use to do ?
I may declare cscs post as a solution and put a “Like” on the Nachlese post, updating my first post to make reference to both answers ?
I’m a little chatty this morning - glad my addition helped.
Don’t sweat the decision on who gets a green mark too much - do as you said in the last sentence (cscs).
I don’t care either way - again: glad it helped.
Usually the first post that actually solved the issue; or pointed you in the right direction; could be considered the Solution. While it’s true that others can often add valuable information along the way… usually a simple “Thanks” is more than enough acknowledgement.
As @Nachlese suggests (most of us) are here to help.
First time I open a topic…
As in some other forums, people are fighting to get the solution mark, I prefer to ask first !
Glad to see it is not the case in the Manjaro Community !
Will update now…
Thanks again to all for the knowledge sharing.
There will always be some that treat it much as you describe. It’s unfortunately encouraged by the ‘gamification’ features of the Discourse software that this forum is built upon. Even though this can be disabled by the user, I imagine few actually do that.
