This topic may quickly become redundant, depending on when the next Stable Update comes along, and I’ve been hesitant to report these issues with this in mind. However, chromium is a fast-tracked package, and ever since the previous update to chromium itself, I’ve been noticing a few issues with it in Plasma on Wayland…:
-
chromiumwill no longer load a URL clicked on from within an email inkmail— I don’t know whether it behaves similarly in other email clients, and I have not tested whether it can open URLs from anywhere other than an already openchromiumwindow. -
It is no longer possible to copy a URL directly from the
chromiumaddress bar into the clipboard, whether by selecting it with the mouse, by choosing the “Copy” entry in the right-click popup menu, or by way of a keyboard shortcut. The copied entry in the clipboard is always a blank line. -
chromiumno longer respects theqtcolor scheme, and although there is a button to use theqtcolor scheme — see the screenshot below
— clicking this button does not have any effect whatsoever. The buttons for using the gtkcolor palette or the built-in “Classic” theme do however work.
In terms of the color palette, this is what it used to look like, and what it should normally look like… ![]()
… and this is what it looks like now. ![]()
It also doesn’t appear to use any themes from the Chrome Store. You can install different chromium themes, but it won’t use them, and the section for configuring them in the Preferences will be blank until you remove the theme again and reload the page.
Again, this could all be due to some incompatibility between the two most recent chromium builds — which we take over from Arch verbatim — and the already outdated Plasma and qt versions in the Stable branch, in which case the problem should remedy itself upon the next Stable Update. I don’t have any problem with that, and I can wait — it’s not really a showstopper.
On the other hand, it could also be something with a much deeper underlying cause. And that’s why I’ve now decided to report it. ![]()
