Change sddm resolution

Plasma 6 on Wayland. From System Settings, Login Screen, apply settings to SDDM doesn’t work.

I want to change the resolution of the login screen. It is currenty 2560x1080 but i want it natively on 5120x2160 @120 Hz.

I tried:

10-wayland.conf
[General]
DisplayServer=wayland

[Wayland]
CompositorCommand=kwin_wayland --width 5120 --height 2160 --scale 1

in /etc/sddm.conf.d/

but then it doesn’t start up and drops to the emergency shell. Removed the file, rebooted and its back to half size.

I probably miss some more options on the CompositorCommand directive?

I did a search and couldn’t find a solution (mutliple similar posts but different in nature or no solution).

Thanks!

Not a direct answer to your inquiry, but have you tried the new plasma-login-manager? It’s a replacement for sddm and it’s maintained by KDE themselves.

Nice, that was part of the solution!

kcmshell6 kcm_plasmalogin

From there, Apply Plasma Settings works!

I don’t know exactly about the sddm but I had similar issue woth the plymouth theme I was trying and I just had to manually swap out the image with required resolution one…

For sddm and plasma splashscreen I just used different themes and mixed up some elements to make it look as I wanted… PLM is too plain for my current setup

I must admit, I too chose a favourite wallpaper in preference to the default.

As did I. There isn’t much else you need to have going on, on a Login Screen… and the fact is it is easy to do, by design, I warrant.

Apart from making your friends who use windows question their choices and thought of calling themselves ‘tech enthusiasts’…

:joy:

Always nice to tease windows users… I’m not gonna miss the opportunity on that one… That’s why I use sddm sugar candy theme
Every small little details I can make it look unique on my PC is always nice, 100 small details make one massive statement ‘freedom of choices’…

This is my current Login Background in PLM :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

It’s called ‘Dingoes at Dinner’

An informal dinner; come as you are… it didn’t work out well for the joey.
