Change language per user in Manjaro Cinnamon

Hello I'm posting this in hope of helping someone. After installing and upgrading Manjaro 18.0.4 Cinnamon, I wanted to set Spanish language for one user and English language for me. Unfortunately Setting in this Desktop Environment only allows to change language globally (for all users).

For this solution I used this guides as references:

This is the solution:

  1. Install the additional language:
  • Go to Menu Button -> Manjaro Settings Manager -> Locale Settings and add your language
  • Go to Menu Button -> Manjaro Settings Manager -> Language Packages and install all packages
  • Reboot
  1. Create two files:
  • Choose the language you want from localedef --list-archive
  • ~/.config/locale.conf and put inside:
LANG=es_CU
LC_CTYPE="es_CU"
LC_NUMERIC=es_CU
LC_TIME=es_CU
LC_COLLATE="es_CU"
LC_MONETARY=es_CU
LC_MESSAGES="es_CU"
LC_PAPER=es_CU
LC_NAME=es_CU
LC_ADDRESS=es_CU
LC_TELEPHONE=es_CU
LC_MEASUREMENT=es_CU
LC_IDENTIFICATION=es_CU
LC_ALL=es_CU

I choose to use Spanish from Cuba (es_CU)

  • ~/.config/locale.conf and put inside:
export LANG="es_CU.UTF-8"
export LC_CTYPE="es_CU.UTF-8"
export LC_NUMERIC="es_CU.UTF-8"
export LC_TIME="es_CU.UTF-8"
export LC_COLLATE="es_CU.UTF-8"
export LC_MONETARY="es_CU.UTF-8"
export LC_MESSAGES="es_CU.UTF-8"
export LC_PAPER="es_CU.UTF-8"
export LC_NAME="es_CU.UTF-8"
export LC_ADDRESS="es_CU.UTF-8"
export LC_TELEPHONE="es_CU.UTF-8"
export LC_MEASUREMENT="es_CU.UTF-8"
export LC_IDENTIFICATION="es_CU.UTF-8"
export LC_ALL="es_CU.UTF-8"

Again, I choose to use Spanish from Cuba (es_CU)
After this reboot, and the user should have their language changed

Repeat this for each user

Well done!
I recommend to NOT use LC_ALL entry. It overrides all others and should only be used for troubleshooting.
