Problem Removing kde after installation ;-(

So, I installed gnome version on my computer with I originally installed Manjaro. I was happy getting use to the shell. Today I got a silly thought and said, Let’s give kde a try, because why not. I got time, you know. I began to follow the wiki section to get the kde install, from here: Install Desktop Environments - Manjaro. Sadly kde is not ready for me at the moment so, I decided to uninstall the environment. When I try to do things like this:

sudo pacman -R plasma kio-extras                                                                                                                                                                                
Place your finger on the fingerprint reader
error: target not found: plasma

Is there a way for you guys to help me get gnome back as the only DE in my computer? kde, sadly don’t want to go. I need it out. Thank you for your kind services.

yep - you gotta use the proper/actual names of the packages that you want to remove :wink:

To see/know what exactly got installed and what you therefore want to remove
can be tracked/seen by inspecting the pacman.log

tac /var/log/pacman.log | less
(this lists the pacman install log in reverse order, most recent entries first - use arrow keys to scroll …)

It’s not automated - not recursive
but it is safe
and with copy/paste only takes a few minutes …
just deinstall each one that was installed since when you installed KDE
you can put all in one line
sudo pacman -R …the list of packages that got installed, separated by a space …

so, I decided to install plasma-desktop. after I typed the same command to remove it, since the first command did have an error I applied it. This is the result after word:

I checked the manual, and it says it should indeed accept groups as removal target.
Maybe it can’t handle removing a group and a package at the same time…?

sudo pacman -R plasma

What you said worked but not all the way. :frowning_face: I obviously had to do it the way you said because it made sense and it did work the way you said it. So I thank you for that. But then I had to go and uninstall all the kde programs and their dependency the following way:

Finally I had to do the following:

sudo pacman -R kde-applications signon-kwallet-extension kaccounts-integration Then it finally work. everything from kde is gone from the system Thanks dude. :smiley:
