Can't start x server / Xorg

Hi!
When I turn on my Asus laptop it failed to start showing the following message (and get stuck at this point): Failed to start Load/Save ness of backlight:acpi_video0.

In order to find out the origin of the problem, I run 2 commands: inxi -Fzxxxm and
sudo journalctl -b | curl -F 'file=@-' https://0x0.st obtaining this URL https://0x0.st/i78E.txt. After reading it, I just see that Xorg is core-dumping and that there is a problem with amdgpu driver.

Later, someone told me that this error is due to deprecated Kernel (I have Kernel: 5.6.15-1-MANJARO), and that a kernel upgrade could solve the problem. For that reason I decided to install a new kernel (now I have linux59), but the problem persist.
I also run the command startx, getting many errors:
[manjaro /]# startx

Can anybody help me to clarify this situation? I really appreciate your advise.

Thanks in advance,

How did you install the new kernel?
Your system info also still reports 5.6.
(edit - your inxi shows 5.6, whereas your journal shows 5.4)

I install it from text console (CTRL+ATL+F2), but at this moment I’m in a LIve version of Manjaro (USB) and it doesn’t show the changes.

[manjaro /]# mhwd-kernel -li
Currently running: 5.6.15-1-MANJARO (linux56)
The following kernels are installed in your system:
   * linux59

I more meant did you use mhwd-kernel to install it or no ?

Yes I did

Mk.
Well lets cover some bases:

sudo pacman-mirrors -f && sudo pacman -Syyu
sudo mhwd-kernel -r linux59 && sudo mhwd-kernel -i linux59
sudo mhwd -f -i pci video-linux

Then try booting into 5.9 and lets see if we get anything different.

(I also notice you have have dual-grapphics with an nvidia card using nouveau instead of proprietary nvidia … is that on purpose?)

Actually, I don’t know why. I haven’t made configurations in that respect.

Thats probably why - just using default opensource drivers.
But lets what state its in first.

I have a question: Can I run these commands from live manjaro or is necessary to do it from text console (hard disk)?

However you get into the system.
Running from USB will only be affecting the USB system unless you chroot.

See here:

Hello,

Sorry for my late answer but I had to work.

I’ve run the commands you suggested but nothing new happened.

Thats a lot of different errors.
For example … errors with your filesystem

kernel: EXT4-fs (sda2): error count since last fsck: 2253

But also it seems everything from lightdm to systemd stuff is failing.

You may also wish trying a lower kernel like 5.4 LTS.

Hello!

I’ve installed linux59 and linux54 kernels with no positive results (the problem with Xorg persist).
Searching, I found in the forum a very similar case https://forum.manjaro.org/t/black-screen-after-installing-blender/15090, (in my case, the last thing I made before system start failing, was install Blender), in which the person solved the problem installing the propietary dirvers form Nvidia. So, I installed a new driver (video-nvidia-450xx) because was available with kernel 5.9 and linux 5.4, but surprisingly, nothing change: when boot the system it stuck in black screen and show the same message: Failed to start Load/Save ness of baclight:acpi_video0".

*At the moment I’ve in my system: video-nvidia450xx and video-linux.

Running command journalctl -p err show same errors:

What can I do to troubleshoot this? Is there any way or do I have to restore manjaro?

*I also removed blender from the CLI doing a chroot from a live system, but this doesn’t solve the problem.

Thanks in advance!
