Can't login another tty with endless repeated "^@" symbol get auto inserted

The “^@” is only showing when input password, but something similar happens when input username (represented as faster cursor blinking).

Yes, I can input when this appear. I find no way but to restart my PC to stop it and to be able to login the second TTY again.

It’s rarely happened. It happened in older versions before.

When its not always happening, maybe some Keyboard Buttons are maybe triggered? Do you have this behaviour when you open a editor? Like Nano?

Something similar was mentioned a few years ago on the Arch forums. I don’t see clear solutions, but maybe some starting points for you.

No, everything is normal in tty1, I had no typing issue with my IDE and other application.

What is an IDE?

I can only think for a few work arounds there…

  1. Unplug and plugin your keyboard.

  2. Switch to other TTY’s or why not restore your desktop?

  3. Switching to other Keyboard Layouts.

  4. Try Different Kernel (6.6 LTS)

Integrated Development Environment, I was using one of the product from Jetbrains.

Unplug and plugin the keyboard is one.

I will try this next time :+1:.

I’ve done these. Not working.

Switching to other Keyboard Layouts.

I think I’ve done this.

Try Different Kernel (6.6 LTS)

I want to use new kernel. But if I have enough spare time and curiosity, I will do it.

I don’t claim I know what’s going on, just a few ideas.

For example, I use Bash, it has a .bashrc file with settings for the prompt (and more). Any such thing affecting your setup? I’m thinking maybe there is a setting this basic tty thing doesn’t agree with, either as it is set up, or in combination with your keyboard. For testing, maybe create a new user and use that with the most basic settings and try again?

Is it a wireless keyboard? Try one with cable and see if it changes anything.

Got it.

Is it a wireless keyboard?

No

I was on the lock screen of tty1, after waking up the screen, I didn’t login in tty1, instead, go straight to the tty3 with shortcut, and it appeared.

Unplug and plugin the keyboard is one.

I found this works for me.

In the broken tty3, when I unplug or plug the keyboard, my screen will turn off and after several seconds, turn on again. Looks like it’s restarted.

In this case, i recommend to buy a little extension to protect the connector and also to gain better access.

Ah, you reminds me that both of my keyboard and mouse are connected to the USB port of my monitor, which also explains why plug/unplug would lead to monitor restart. There must be issues with the port or the monitor.

The monitor also sometimes get restarted by itself with no reason.

I will try to use the port on the computer to see if it could happen again.

Thanks a lot, guys!

Update: IT STILL HAPPENED, so it’s either my keyboard is too old (3 or 4 year old?) to function normally or the bug of system.

I would bet that is the main reason.

Im pretty sure, to use USB ports from Monitor isn’t a good choice for input devices.

TBH i would evade Monitor USB’s in general.
