Can't find vmlinuz when building new Cinnamon ISO

Trying to get a new Cinnamon ISO built. Running the following build command:

buildiso -p cinnamon -f -k linux618 -n

Everything looks good, until I get to the part where it’s preparing /iso/root:

==> Creating updated database file '/var/lib/manjaro-tools/buildiso/cinnamon/x86_64/mhwdfs/opt/mhwd/pkg/mhwd.db.tar.gz'

cp: cannot stat '/var/lib/manjaro-tools/buildiso/cinnamon/x86_64/rootfs/boot/vmlinuz*': No such file or directory
==> ERROR: A failure occurred in make_image_boot().
    Aborting...

The only vmlinuz file I can find in the build directories is in /var/lib/manjaro-tools/buildiso/cinnamon/x86_64/rootfs/usr/lib/modules/6.18.49-1-MANJARO. I have no idea where to go next.

The Manjaro Development category is not for support issues.
Moved to Support with buildiso tag

Then you are having other issues - what I cannot guess…

Some reasons to verify - in no particular order

  • file system errors
  • using btrfs
  • stale kernel modules (neglected to reboot after update)

I’ve rebooted, multiple times. The reason I specified the 6.18 kernel was the default was way too old (6.6). No filesystem errors.

The only thing I can think of is that maybe buildiso doesn’t like running in a VM. Is that a possibility?

Perhaps - if your host file system is btrfs and guest filesystem is btrfs.

In my personal experience btrfs is a no go for a build host. For a build host it is better to use ext4.

I cannot point exactly to where the issue lies - the only thing I know for sure - is that I have had plenty issues with btrfs - not only related to buildiso - generally speaking btrfs is a great filesystem in many aspects but it is not perferct.

I am guessing now, based on some dated and dusty memories…

While I have made small contributions to the manjaro-tools libraries - I am not fluent in bash… - not at all…

If I recall correct - when host file system is btrfs the buildiso part of manjaro-tools will use subvolumes - and this is what I - back then - believed was the issue on my system.

Interesting…guess I’ll have to build a new system to (at least) eliminate this possibility. FWIW, I use btrfs for everything except my systemd-boot’s /efi partition.
