Can't connect to my 5ghz network (kicks randomly)

Hey everyone,
I’ve seen some people having the same problems, but I can’t find the solution. My wifi Adapter It’s clearly not working as it should (It worked fine on Windows), and I don’t know where to find the adecuate drivers for it (It’s a WavLink AC 600 Dual Band).

In detail, the problem I’m currently having is that I can’t connect to my 5ghz network (I can see it though). Sometimes I can connect fine, sometimes it shows “Limited connectivity”, and sometimes I can’t even connect to it.

I suppose It has to do with drivers (The adapter’s light it’s not on, I don’t know if that means something). It’s not being hard or soft blocked ( I checked), and I also tried changing region to where I am but nothing.

Here’s the output of iinxi --admin --verbosity=7 --filter --no-host --width

What should I do? Thanks in advance

Hi Squishy,
I don’t see that device on the resource I normally use as a rough guide for supported devices:- https://help.ubuntu.com/community/WifiDocs/WirelessCardsSupported
If it helps, I use a TP-Link TL-WN822N and happy to report it is affordable and works even better than in WIN$ollars
Good luck and I hope this helps!

Hi @Squoshy,
Welcome to the forum!!
Could you please read the following post in order to see whether you could solve the wifi problem?

Problem with wifi driver

Hope this help, regards

Hi @j8a

Thank you for the link! I’ve read it (And also the links they refer to) and it seems that I need to change / update my wifi driver (mt76x0u), but I don’t know where should I find new drivers (maybe from MediaTek | Broadband Wi-Fi 5 / 4 ??) or how to check if the driver being downloaded is compatible with my adapter (yeah, i’m pretty new with linux ). If you or someone could guide me on that, I would be very thankful!

Hi @Squoshy,
I think this is the one for you:
MediaTek | MT7610U

Also, in the post @bogdancovaciu quoted another driver you can find in the AUR.
The following link is in the post I recommended to you.
https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/mt7601u-ap-dkms/

Regards,

Thank you! I’m sorry for being an annoyance, but I don’t really know how to install a driver, any driver. I’ve been looking for the answer the last days but I can not find it. I looked up videos and forums (even the arch wiki).
I’ve downloaded the compatible wifi driver (mt7610u), but I don’t know what to do with it. I’ve tried with Sudo make and sudo make install inside the folder, but it ends with error 1 and 2 saying that
Can't efectuate "stat" on 'mt7650u_sta.ko' there is not such file or directory
and
there is no rule for building the objective "modules"

I would paste the error, but it’s in spanish

Appart from that, I don’t know where to find the driver i’m currently using in case something woes wrong.

Thank you for helping me on this

Hi @Squoshy ,
I speak spanich, it is my native language. Perhaps you could post the output here.
I could not found the drivers that @bogdancovaciu suggested, but I found the following ones
AUR (en) - mt7601u-dkms-git
GitHub - jeremyb31/mt7601u-5.3

http://aur.archlinux.org/packages/mt7610u_wifi_sta
'GitHub - Myria-de/mt7610u_wifi_sta_v3002_dpo_20130916: Modified usb wifi driver for TP_link TL-WDN5200

How to build the packages is simple enough:
sudo pacman -U ‘the name of the package from the AUR’

Also check if rt2800usb module isn’t blacklisted in /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist.conf
