Can't boot USB past Live Media MHWD Script

Hi all,

I have made a new bootable USB of the latest download available on the manjaro homepage and I have selected to boot with proprietary drivers. The problem is my installation doesn’t get past something called Live Media MHWD Script. It isn’t hanging because it looks like there are red asterisks moving next to the description of job started. However, it went on for 20 minutes and still couldn’t boot into manjaro.

Here are my system specifics

Thank you.

Hi @newbietolinux,

You don’t have to use it, you can uninstall it no problems, but have you tried with the Open Source drivers?

It might simply be a driver mismatch.

Hi Mirdathos

Thank you for your input.

I actually want to load the proprietary drivers because I’ve been having problems with the open source drivers. I’m trying a fresh install. I am quite a novice and i think last time I did not install the proprietary drivers. Problems have included hanging and mouse and keyboard freezing. In another post, I wrote about seeing a large white and red square when trying to watch Youtube video.

Any assistance would be welcome.

The reason I’m asking, your GPU seems to not be supported by the 5xx series drivers. Now, I don’t know if the Live USB only supports the latest drivers, but I think so. In which case the GPU is trying to use the (incompatible) drivers. And the symptoms you describe seems as if that might be why.

If you install it with the open-source drivers, you can easily switch to the proprietary ones. In fact, that’s what I did my first install.

Anything else, I’m fresh out of ideas.

:man_shrugging:

Ah great. So I can install with the open source drivers and then switch to the proprietary drivers. I will try that, thank you!

Could you please me guide me through installing with proprietary drivers. I did try booting with open source drivers and then selecting the install option. After that, I saw language and keyboard options but nothing stipulating the type of drivers. Where should i be looking? How do I switch to proprietary drivers?

Thank you.

Launch the Manjaro Settings Manager and click on “Hardware”. Check the box for installing the proprietary driver and click the Install button at the bottom.

Thank you to all who have taken the time to assist.

I am assured that fortunately my legacy driver is supported and I have installed it on my existing system without going the route of a full reinstall of the latest manjaro download . This should sort out the problems I have been having with the system hanging, the mouse and keyboard hanging, and the red and white square over the screen.

If for some reason it does not solve the problem in the near future i will post a new topic.

Thank you once more.
