I have an Lenovo Thinkbook G2 with preinstalled win10. Added an extra Sata drive for dualbooting linux and managed to install Fedora on the second drive.
I want to remove Fedora and install Manjaro (KDE) instead, live system starts properly but second drive is not detected, so Manjaro can only see Win10 disk.
Secure boot disabled, system at setup mode. How can I detect second sata drive with live medium for installation?
Welcome to Manjaro!

What does lsblk return?

It looks like your system cannot see the second drive on a hardware level.
- Are you running your UEFI system in BIOS mode? (aka CSM)
- Can Windows see the disk?
- if yes, give the Windows hardware and driver details, please.
- If no, you have a hardware problem: resolve that (Cable? Power? UEFI firmware upgrade?)
Check your “BIOS” setup - make sure that the drive isn’t in some Intel RAID mode that isn’t supported by the Kernel.
Hello,
I managed to install Manjaro finally. First answers to your questions:
BEFORE
System was not in BIOS mode,
Windows was seeing the disk,
Firmware was already up to date,
No RAID (Laptop is not supporting RAID setup)
Manjaro was detecting UEFI Bootloaders at the live medium boot menu, but could not see the second disk after system starts.
AFTER
Disabled all CPU related Intel “technologies” which are;
- Intel VMD Controller
- Intel Virtualization Technology
- Intel VT-d Feature
- Intel Hyper - Threading Technology
and try again to boot with live medium.
Now Manjaro see the disk. Installed Manjaro without any problem.
BUT STILL
Loaded Default configuration in System,
If Intel VMD controller is turned on Manjaro boot menu appears but Manjaro does not see the disk in which it is installed and drops into an emergency shell.
Thank you for your help.
I thought VMD was only on Xenon chips. (live and learn)
VMD support needs to be specifically enabled in the kernel.
Does Win10 still boot/run ok with VMD disabled?
Oops…
Win10 gone without VMD, (some forums say it is necessary for using nvme, not sure)
Manjaro does not boot with VMD, stuck here.
I need a tutorial for enabling VMD in the kernel, hope to find one…
Try this.
Thank you, but this did not work for me. Still searching for a solution.
Ah, I came here to ask the same question - new HP laptop with 11th Gen i5 and trying to install Manjaro on the SATA (SSD) drive, leaving the Windows NVME drive alone. The installer likewise does not detect the SATA drive.
I tried several other distributions and found that anything running a 5.11 or 5.12 kernel had no issues with detection of the drive (though a few had other issues once installed).
So in the end I slapped the latest Kubuntu on it and will wait patiently for Manjaro to include a newer kernel in the installer.
Also Fedora is working but only GNOME version, not KDE. I don’t like it though. I will try Kubuntu, thank you for the tip about Kernel versions.
