Cannot detect nvidia driver (and the extended monitor) after upgrade to the kernel 5.17.6

Hi. I am new to manjaro! Due to the wifi issues, I had to update to the kernel version 5.17. However, it could not detect the monitor anymore and the error

NVIDIA-SMI has failed because it couldn't communicate with the NVIDIA driver. Make sure that the latest NVIDIA driver is installed and running.

popped up while nvidia-smi, which is actually working for the previous version.

pci=realloc is what I added to make the monitor working previously, introduced by here

can you check

pacman -Qs linux517-

you should have
linux517-headers
linux517-nvidia

wait, I got nothing… What can I do then?

if not

sudo pacman -S linux517-headers linux517-nvidia
sudo mkinitcpio -P

and reboot

cool! Thank you! the nvidia-smi will show up, but still which nvidia found nothing. Is this resealable? Also the monitor is not detected. Do I need to reboot or something?

yes reboot

It worked! Thank you so much! Also, for the second display, I set it as the primary display, but the docker, desktop is still at the laptop monitor. I wonder if it is possible to “truly” set the extended monitor as the primary desktop?

have you removed kernel 5.16 ?

yup, the only kernel that is installed and running is 5.17

for add or remove kernel use

sudo mhwd-kernel -h

I mean I have already removed the previous kernel, though previously the primary desktop setting seems also not worked either.

I just post the separate question to a new thread for anyone interest here
