Can’t move or delete elements on plasma panel

Can’t move or delete elements on panel
When I’m in edit mode on the panel, if I hover the mouse over an item I want to delete or move and click the right mouse button, the edit menu flashes up for a split second and disappears straight away, but of course I don’t have time to select anything. After that, the panel exits edit mode. Restarting doesn’t help.

Ok, thanks. I’ll look forward to the update…

Just get update
[2026-03-31T14:19:37+0100] [ALPM] upgraded plasma-desktop (6.5.6-1.0 → 6.5.6-1.1)

Nothing changed.

I know that it is not 6.5.6-2…

Is this really a big deal?

Did you try editing the config file? I noticed this issue a while back - but just ignored it.

Just search for AppletOrder and move the numbers - they determine the number of the applet for that position.

So if I don’t like number 417 on the right, I can just move it to the left:

[Containments][138][General]
AppletOrder=142;420;331;419;352;199;362;417

kate ~/.config/plasma-org.kde.plasma.desktop-appletsrc

It wouldn’t have been a problem for me at all, as I’d already got everything set up, but today I saw on Reddit how to make the clock bigger and I tried it… I added a spacer and it took up half the panel… Of course, I could stick with the standard one for a few days, but it just doesn’t feel right)

No, I prefer GUI, so I`ll wait, but thanks for the hint!

That’s because it defaults to a variable width. You have to right-click it and select “fixed width”, and then you can set the width in pixels.

If you’re on current stable version, The move is not available, That’ll return with future update…
Although the remove applet option is moved from hovering over applet icon (In edit mode) to right click on applet icon (while in edit mode)

If you’re only right clicking on icon while on desktop - It’ll only give you configuration options and such depending on what applet you’re interacting with.

I see this a better change as hovering made the remove option go nuts for multi-panel setup…
But yea the change should’ve been more obvious that the remove option is in secondary right click menu inside of edit mode.

We discussed it here too - Was rearrange applet icons in panel removed in Plasma 6.5.6?
hope it helps

@Aragorn

You have to right-click it and select

If the right-click menu worked, I wouldn’t be writing this…

…click the right mouse button, the edit menu flashes up for a split second and disappears straight away, but of course I don’t have time to select anything.

In any case, I’ve already removed my panel and replaced it with the standard one. I’ll be waiting for an update…

Thanks to everyone who tried to help!

Mod edit: Consecutive posts merged.

I’m on unstable so this may not apply. Have you tried just hovering and waiting for a menu to appear?

Another option may be to hold the right mouse button, hover over the option you want and then let go.

No, nothing actually worked except editing the text file - but now Testing updated, so I’m out of the loop with regard Phil’s latest pushes.

The menu would barely flicker on, and I spent a good ten minutes trying to play whack-a-mole before deciding it was pretty much a waste of time anyway - editing that file just worked.

What’s worked for me is to open the “Add or Manage Widgets” option.

Next to the search bar, there is a button that says “All Widgets”. Click on that and a drop-down menu will open up. Click on “Running”.

It will show you all of the widgets you have running. You can click on the broom option to uninstall the widgets you don’t want.

I haven’t figured out how to move them yet though.

Yes, This rearrangement issue I experienced on Stable until March 31, The hover menu was not present.

But as I said earlier - there was an option for me to remove the applet by right click on panel > configure panel > right click on desired applet (while in configuration/edit mode) > Remove ‘applet name’ option is last in the list.

As of now, I’ve switched to unstable since April 1, and the rearrange option - the move cursor on hover is back in 6.6.3
This Issue wasn’t the reason of switching to unstable nor do I recommend doing that for this.
