I Can no longer see login screen after trying to upgrade to the latwhst proprietary Nvidia driver.

I took this image after installing 575xx, and before rebooting.

The following image is from the TTL (now that I can no longer see the login screen):

I did not want to try anything silly that might makwh theings worse.

In advance, sorry for any breach of "posting procedures“, since I am doing this from my mobile phone, and also in advance, thanks for any provided help.

Please also provide your system information as described (below).

Regards.

Welcome to the Manjaro community

As a new or infrequent forum user, please take some time to familiarise yourself with Forum requirements, and the many ways to use the forum to your benefit.

To that end, links are provided (below) - Please use them.

Be prepared to provide outputs from various commands when asked. It’s equally important to provide as much actionable information as possible in your first post, rather than simply indicating there is a problem.

Waiting for others to blindly ask questions can be counter-productive – typically, nobody has a :crystal_ball: at their disposal – Instead, please help others to make informed suggestions, based on information you provide.

Update Announcements

The Update Announcements contain important information and a Known Issues and Solutions section that should generally be checked before posting a request for support.

System Information

While information from *-fetch type apps might be fine for someone wishing to buy your computer, for Support purposes it’s better to ask your system directly; :eyes:

Output of the inxi command (with appropriate parameters, and formatted according to forum guidelines) will generate information useful for those wishing to help:

As far as I think, its a matter of getting rid of some drivers, an reinstall other ones. I just do not wan to risk doing “irreversal” damage.

Mod edit: Minor cosmetic edits. No charge.

I saw a similar topic very recently.
It was suggested to try the 570xx drivers instead.

Your inxi output seems incomplete.

Found the issue here:

https://wiki.manjaro.org/index.php/Configure_Graphics_Cards#Checking_configuration

I already had drivers installed.

NOTE!
mhwd is a tool used to automatically install the needed graphics driver, read more about it in:
https://wiki.manjaro.org/index.php/Configure_Graphics_Cards#Automated_Identification_and_Installation

-

Check validity of configured symlink: sudo mhwd-gpu --check

For me, sudo mhwd-gpu --status gave:

xorg configuration file: '/etc/X11/mhwd.d/vesa.conf', and in the same folder (/etc/X11/mhwd.d/) there are other .conf files, one of which is one called /etc/X11/mhwd.d/nvidia.conf

The installed driver on my rig, per inxi -G is: ... driver: nvidia ...

$ inxi -G
Graphics:
  Device-1: NVIDIA TU104GL [Quadro RTX 4000] driver: nvidia v: 580.82.09 ...

Setting nvidia.conf as the default config file with : sudo mhwd-gpu --setxorg /etc/X11/mhwd.d/nvidia.conf fixed the my issue.

-

Stuff I still do not understand are:

  • sudo mhwd-gpu --setmod
  • How to find out which driver is the system sets as default to use using mhwd?
  • Is it ok to uninstall all other video-drivers and only keep one!
  • Where can I learn more about this?
