Can no longer listen audio from connected bluetooth devices after update

After updating my system (around the 23rd) I can no longer connect a bluetooth device to my system in order to hear audio playback from it.

The devices appear in PA volume control as Audio gateway (A2DP Source & HSP/HFP AG) but do not appear in the output of pactl list sources

Using pipewire for audio, here is the output of inxi:

“fixed” by switching from wireplumber to pipewire-media-session, but the issue will reoccur if I set a device’s profile to Audio gateway.

Leaving open because I would like to understand what might cause this.

could be fixed by deleting existing bluetooth connection and re-pairing the device.

since you reverted to pipewire-media-session you can leave it as-is.
