  • Component: Taskbar / Window List
  • Version: 4.18.6-2
  • Operating System: manjaro 24.1.1 (testing branch)

  1. Open multiple windows of the same applications.
  2. Observe the taskbar display.
  3. Notice that some windows (often every second opened window) do not show a title in the taskbar.

Expected Behavior

It is also placing them on the wrong side and grouping. Did you try to remove and readd the windows plugin and to play with its settings? Or to downgrade to the stable version just to be sure it is really a bug?

Cause the stable version does not do this by me.

Currently on my PC, xfce4-panel is 4.18.6-1 (in stable) !
And I never saw your problem. Just tried 10 Firefox, no problem.

strange that you’re using xfce4-panel 4.18.1 on manjaro, when we’re at 4.18.6…
you should at least update to 4.18.6 to see if the bug still exists

Branch compare for Manjaro - xfce4-panel
stable :4.18.6-1
testing :4.18.6-2
unstable :4.18.6-2

@Denis_Pom Firefox does not have this issue, its not affecting all windows.

Fixed my mistake

might be happen do to this?:

@pheiduck, try this:
xfce4-panel --preferences ==> objects ==> window buttons ==> uncheck window grouping per application

… back on testing since today

Could be. This seems like a completely different source, although the versions are the same. Just downloaded the gitlab - double so big with about 50 more files, ok some of them are git control but still.

My next thought was to test whether it also happens with none-grouped windows.
@banjo its not happen when windows in none grouped mode. I change additionally that windows sorted by Timestamp.

Issue is also present in my VM 4.18.6-2.

tested 4.19.6 (aka 4.20pre1) same issue.

Current workaround is to use none grouped windows.

Have you tested other options in xfce4-panel:Window Buttons [Xfce Docs]?

Which one do you mean? I have unchecked „Group windows by application“ which is a workaround for me.

Re:
Something deep in my memory (old bug) pops up.
Test:
Reenable grouped windows, move panel to the top, hover over grouped icons again.
Do you see text this way?

I remember an old bug where under certain settings the text was only visible below the panel, so you couldn’t see it with the panel at the bottom.
But that was years ago and I was never affected - my panel is/was always on the left side.

xfce4-panel 4.18.6-3 is now available on Unstable branch

Have you tried using qpwgraph or patchance instead of helvum?

Will try it out on the weekend and report back.

It has nothing to do with helvum as you can see in the video virt-manager is as well affected by this issue.

I see an issue with helvum panel icon in the first half of the video

Suggestion to use a different JACK patchbay was to eliminate any possible issue with helvum (or gtk4) that might be unrelated to virt-manager issue

Bug will be fixed in 4.20 see:

Will also be fixed in 4.20 as I have seen it in the testings states I made.
