They will state “failed to execute default Web Browser. Failed to execute child process brave (no such file or directory).” I want firefox as my default browser for everything and I want brave gone.

Have you (re)set the default browser?
xfce settings - default applications
a sure way to get there:
in a terminal:
LANG=C xfce4-settings-manager
go to System / Default Applications
it is gone if you uninstalled it - but settings in your $HOME will not be changed/touched by that
not by anything that is installed or uninstalled
