Booting stuck (sometimes)

Few days ago I got an error while booting - “Timed out waiting for device disk/by-uuid/”, on manjaro xfce, I’ve tried to fix it but didn’t succeed, so I decided to save all important files on another disk using live usb and chroot. Then I switched to manjaro kde installed software that I needed and basically didn’t make any changes.

And now when I try to boot it is not working as expected all the time, sometimes I get stuck in the dell loading screen, after that I try to reboot several times and somehow it works.

The last time I’ve also tried to unplug almost everything from my laptop (mouse, keyboard, second monitor) just to check and it booted, not sure that this will work every time, maybe it was a coincidance.

I’ve checked journalctl --boot=-1 --priority=3 and got next output:

Any ideas what is wrong and how to fix it?

and this is not clear to me, what you did exactly:

since you mentioned xfce and kde…

I was using Manjaro with XFCE DE, and for some reason, after I tried to reboot the system, I got a “Timed out waiting for device disk/by-uuid/” error and couldn’t launch the system. Then I found that this might be caused by the way I was mounting a drive, so I looked for a similar problem on a forum and tried a suggested solution, but I didn’t succeed. So I decided, “Okay, I don’t have that much time to fix this in the right way, I will just save important files on a second drive and install a new system from my USB drive - Manjaro with KDE DE.”

Previously, my assumption was that something was wrong with devices that I connect to a laptopl (mouse, keyboard, etc.), however now I do not think so, as for now one of the most probable things I think might be causing this is nvidia drivers

I also found out that the reason might be in incorrect way of turning the laptop off, I usually use shutdown 20, or just press and hold power off button. So, I’ve tried to do it using the GUI, and it looks like if I turn it off in that way it then boots normally.

Have you blacklist acpi ?

this was very likely the reason for the boot stuck… you force shutdown it, and thats not good, it can even damage your harddrive, so shutdown your pc normally, and not how you did it…
