First I have to say I really like Manjaro and it was on one of my computers for years. the problem started when I tried to upgrade the kernel and nothing worked, so I downloaded the current ISO to USB stick and upgraded the system. I also upgraded to BTRFS on that device.
Here is where it gets strange, when I select Manjaro from the Grub menu a page displays with three lines that start with the word error. when I hit the e key to edit a perfectly good boot page comes up but no matter what I do it will not respond or it will go to another distro on the menu. If I edit this file or not it won’t react, control-x will not save control -s also has no effect function 10 won’t boot, any Emacs commands do not work on this page.
trying not to install again (don’t know if it would delete the bad boot page and replace it) When I have installed Manjaro it always booted just fine but I have to update Grub to include the other distros and this time it just didn’t work
I don’t quite get what exactly does not work. Are you talking about live usb, or you did manage to install, and then if so what bootloader are you using. Grub from another OS will not play nicely with manjaro and probably won’t be able to boot it. Better use rEFInd for example, if you have so many OSes.
In any case you need to describe more clearly what you experience and what you have, especially since you have a complicated setup.
I installed the latest Manjaro from a usb stick (because it would not fit on a DVD) Everything worked fine. My main Distro is Tumbleweed (2 copies) and also on this drive is KDE Neon and Linux Mint. They all boot from /dev/sda1 Manjaro is installed on sdc1 (where I have installed it before)
/dev/sdb is mainly a backup drive. the bootloader for all of them has always been Grub now Grub2 there have been very few if any problems When anything is installed I have to update grub.config which keeps everthing in order When I run into a problem I could allways use the Open Suse Tumbleweed disk because it has an upgrade function on disk which I had to use to get my networking fully functional after some local internet problems should I add this to my original post? Thanks for responding

Yes, provide inxi. But i think i see where this one is going.
So i suspected right. You are trying to use the Suse Grub to boot manjaro. This might or might not work, there is no guarantee.
Alternative to using a completely different loader would be to try using manjaro grub to boot the others (no guarantee too) or switching to Unified kernel images and skipping the bootloader altogether, the firmware will directly boot the kernel then.
If you do not want to bother with complicated configs, just keep manjaro on a separate disk, with its own efi partition so that there is no other influences…and boot from the firmware selecting the manjaro disk.
p.s.
one time free of charge formatting from me, but next time use the code button/tags
p.p.s. actually better paste it again, since you are using some fancy™
terminal like zsh (yeah it is the default i know) or fish and the formatting is pasted too.
Assuming you have a fully qualified UEFI system, and your boot mode is also UEFI rather than Legacy boot, you might find the following of interest. Once you’ve used a Ventoy USB you might wonder how you ever managed without it:
