Hallo,
booting is not possible without using my USB stick in Manjaro xfce, and even then I have to try several times.
What can I do .
My laptop is an Asus N71J 4gb memory.
Thank you for the assistance.
Hello @rediser
Well that is not helpful… open a terminal and enter the following commands to get more information:
inxi -Fazy
lsblk --fs
sudo parted -l
efibootmgr -v
And share the output here as code. Then someone can give an advice.
A wild guess…
cat /etc/fstab
… or even
cat ate canary

I did it this time for you. Please do it like this in the future.
Thank you
In fstab:
But it has actually another UUID:
In fstab the UUID must match to the partition’s UUID.
What have you done before that booting problem appears?
It started when I installed XFCE months ago. I have now installed KDE as a test version, this version runs fast and good but the problem remains the same.
I can of course try with another iso, but Manjaro is much easier because I can easily install printer and scanner via Aur.
At the moment I don’t see what to do to get this to work.
The only think what I can imagine is (if UUIDs match) that your BIOS/UEFI is locked to the first drive sda. Therefore you need to put at least 2 partitions on sda:
- efi partition (vfat) → /boot/grub/efi
- boot partition (ext2/3/4) → /boot
The reason for that is that the UEFI only scans the first drive and therefore doesn’t find grub on the second drive sdb.
Also this partition must be flagged with boot
, esp
or boot,esp
, so that the UEFI knows that this one contains boot files.
Some UEFI require it, some not.
Hello,
I still had a usb stick that came with my new laptop with Manjaro KDE. As a test, I did a new installation of this stick and my old laptop can boot again.
Unfortunately I get the following error:
Attention : installing lib32-libcanberra(1:0.30+r2+gc0620r4-1) breaks dependency.
Add lib32-libcanberra-gstreamer to remove.
How do I solve that?
Thanks in advance
Your answer means nothing to me.
The question was how do I solve it and what does that question mark mean.
In other words: Remove lib32-libcanberra-gstreamer and then upgrade.
What is not understandable? On pamac-manager you add actions like add and/or remove of packages and then proceed.
However…
Keep in mind that Manjaro is a rolling release. It is a bad idea to use an old installation media. Always use a current one.
I keep getting the question: choose a provider for java environment, bv, jdk-openjdk 18.0.2.1uo-1 extra
then comes the error ,unable to satisfy dependency libceItO.soverreist for lib32-jack.
unable to satisfy dependency ‘lib32-celt’ required for lib32-jack
What now
To be honest… there will be more dependencies. Flash a current ISO on that usb stick and and install that one. Much less effort for a newbie. The reason for that behavior is that the packages on the mirror are much newer than on the ISO and a lot of things change.
Anyway… if you want to do this tedious work, then learn how to resolve dependency errors. Example:
lib32-jack
is no longer part of the official repos. It was replaced by lib32-jack2
. So remove it.
Hello,
Out of frustration I installed Manjaro mate once and that gives good results: I don’t get any error messages anymore. I install and do everything via pamac and am now trying to install my printer but that doesn’t work. The printer is a laser printer Brother HL2240D.I have already installed the lpr and CUPS driver via AUR, but the printer does not work.
With the KDE version it seemed easier to me.
How can I solve that in Manjaro Mate.
Please take into account my age 75 years
Thank you very much for your help.
Regards,
That is another topic. Feel free to open a new one.
