Boot issue again: static screen on boot, no access to TTY

I don’t have any guess for what caused this one, I was trying out a game on Steam, it was choppy, checked a few things, only thing I saw update were some Steam games (they finished), restarted and now I just get a sequential flash of static when I select boot to Manjaro (dual boot w/ Windows 7 & 10, UEFI+Legacy mode). I can’t do anything because no TTY will work, I just see the login prompt for a second and it disappears. I used my live USB to use chroot and get logs, here is what it came up with:

AMD Ryzen 5 2600 CPU, Nvidia GeForce 1070 GPU, dual-booting Manjaro with Windows 7 and 10.

Edit: it seems my live boot USB was outdated, I updated it and now have the correct info. Light Display Manager isn’t working.

Welcome to Manjaro! :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:

  1. Please read the information behind this link. It will help you to post necessary information.
  1. Please press the three dots below your post and then press the :pencil2:
  • If you give us information about your system, we can see what we’re talking about and make better suggestions.
  • You can do this by using inxi in a terminal or in console.
sudo inxi --admin --verbosity=8 --filter --no-host --width --repos
  • Personally identifiable information such as serial numbers and MAC addresses are filtered out by this command
  • Presenting the information in this way allows everyone to be familiar with the format and quickly find the items they need without missing anything.
  1. Copy the output from inxi (including the command) and paste it into your post.
  • To make it more readable, add 3 backticks ``` on an extra line before and after the pasted text.

Have you already :mag: for your problem in the forum ? (Wisdom lies in asking → listening → reading  )

The kernel version I use is 6.6, it’s the one that Manjaro boots into for me. I don’t know why it is choosing 6.5 when I used chroot, don’t know how to change that either honestly.

Buggy firmware. Try upgrading the one on your Mainboard, probably the upgrade has a fix.

I’m not sure if it’s my motherboard firmware that’s causing it or not, I had a problem with my GPU drivers before and I’m pretty sure it’s the same issue that’s resurfaced. Is it possible to update Manjaro via the live USB or to reinstall GPU drivers for Manjaro? I’ve never done it this way before and I’m kind of paranoid about losing any data.

Possibly the kernel used with the live boot ISO

Yes. See here:

Yes, my bad, I made a fresh, updated live boot USB and updated the logs.

@Mirdarthos Thank you, I will give that a shot.

I feel like a complete fool and feel like I’ve wasted peoples’ time (including my own), I am guessing and hoping I fixed the issue: there was no space on my drive left and after clearing the out a lot of the pacman cache files (via live boot) which took up about 4 gigs of space I could update and it finally ran normally.
