Hello
I updated my Manjaro installation yesterday before closing the system, and today the start up seems to freeze after I successfully unlock LUKS.
Any ideas what could cause this? And is there some more info I can provide?
I understood that output of journalctl -b-1 -p4 --no-pager may have something useful. I’m able to chroot into that installation from live environment.

My humble guess is that the display-manager crashes because the gpu is not ready…
sudo nano /etc/mkinitcpio.conf
replace MODULES=() with
MODULES=(amdgpu nvidia nvidia_drm nvidia_uvm nvidia_modeset)
or just add the ones there.
Then recreate the initcpio.
sudo mkinitcpio -P
That loads the gpu drivers early.

Maybe similar issue:
Since quite a while my System boots to a blackscreen occasionally after successfully unlocking my LUKS-encrypted drives.
Opening a TTY with CTRL+Alt+Fx is not possible in those cases.
Most of the time I am able to boot normally to the usual login screen after resetting the laptop with the on/off switch. In some cases it takes 2 or more resets.
I found another thread with a similar problem, but there is no solution and no further feedback by the author.
Any thoughts/solutions on/for this iss…
I can reproduce the similar issue of Linux Kernel 5.18.15 in VM after the update.
Thanks for suggestions, but that didn’t seem to make a difference.
Though earlier there was one line on screen before it freezes saying something like <path-to-luks-partition> files xxx/yyy blocks zzz/kkk(expected text)

did you rerun the update again from chroot?
Yeah, tried to just update again, but there wasn’t any updates.
Also tried with linux519, but same result. Though different error:

Closing the container is not really important - and would be difficult to explain and actually do.
What may be much more important is:
To do this the OP could “simply” boot into single user mode
Then there could be another kernel installed to have a choice.
on second thought:
Booting from live medium and accessing the container from there would be the way to do this more easily.
Sorry I don’t exactly understand what you mean? I’m able to chroot to that partition from live installation and then run pacman -Suy

Make sure the container is open, but the filesystem not mounted.
output from:sudo lsof |grep 254,0
and do you have installed the 5.15 kernel?
This is lsof |grep 254,0 run as root when chrooted to that partition.

(I don’t think the LUKS is related to the issue. I think those last errors happen when I shutdown from power button) Or maybe not

Yes, Manjaro Linux Kernel 5.18.15 without LUKS can not boot in VM.
I checked updating Arch Linux Kernel 5.18.15 in VM, the same issue again.
I am sure there is no coincidence that kernel 5.18.15 broke it, but previous 5.18.14 has no issue.
Need to check diff between 5.18.14 and 5.18.15, what is new change that broke?
I was getting the issue on Kernel 5.15.57, so not sure if mine is same.
according to logs its related to luks and to some not clossed processes …mhwd -l && mhwd -li
Downgraded back to Linux 5.15.55-1 and was able to get the system to start.
