Hdmi no output to external monitor

Hello,

When I connect my laptop to an external monitor (HDMI to VGA) there is no output on the external monitor. It stays in powersave mode. When I connect the HDMI cable I get some options on screen but nothing happens when I select unify screens, or extend screen.

I am using KDE, and an acer Nitro 5 laptop with an nvidia gforce graphics card.

Other posters have given xrandr output, so this is what I get using xrandr (I do not know what this means, but it does not even mention HDMI):

Can anyone help?
