Bluetooth does not start (hci0: Opcode 0x0c03 failed: -16)

Dear all,

I can’t get my bluetooth running on a new PC. Basically, bluetooth manager doesn’t show any adaptors, when I open the adaptor menu, it only contains the “exit” item. I can enable bluetooth, but that doesn’t do anything other than setting the rfkill soft-blocked flag to no (default is yes).

There is a lot of great info Bluetooth - ArchWiki

The easiest method is

sudo pacman -Syu bluez-utils

Then run

bluetoothctl

Then power up the controller

power on

To exit

 exit

First: Thanks for picking this up.

Yes, I tried that (bluez-utils are installed), but I get an error message:

No default controller available

The thing with the Archwiki bluetooth is: I don’t have a pairing problem. I don’t have any working bluetooth adapter in the first place. And I think that is connected to the dmesg " Bluetooth: hci0: Opcode 0x0c03 failed: -16".

By the way: I found this patch page (which I am not allowed to link, you may find it by googling " Bluetooth: btusb: Add new VID/PID 0489/e124 for MT7925"), which seems to say that a driver has been changed, but I don’t really understand what the page means. Also, my device is a Foxconn/Hon Hai thing, the vendor name is not Mediatek.

Thank you. So, I’ll just wait for the new kernel to drop.

Also, am I right to expect that when the new kernel is available, I can un-blacklist r8169 instead of relying on r8125-dkms? I’m so far experiencing network issues unless I use r8125-dkms.

If so, then this thread can be closed. You have been helpful.
