Blank screen on reboot or system start

For the last few weeks I have noticed that whenever I try to reboot my laptop, during the boot process, the screen goes blank after the splash screen. Prior to the upgrade from today, simply powering down and powering on the laptop resolved the issue. To get the laptop to boot this morning, I had to switch my kernel from 6.7 to 6.6. Any ideas what is happening here?
