Blank screen at boot after grub

I’ve got a Lenovo y50, and unfortunately about 60-70% of the time I start my machine, I can’t get much further than grub.
I’m still able to get to tty2-6 no problem.

Any ideas? Here’s some info on my system:

Thanks for your reply. That’s right, often when I boot, the graphical environment isn’t loaded.

Here are the results of ‘dmesg --level=err’:

So don’t use nvidia proprietary drivers for now. At least not 390.25

Ok. For now, I just try restarting a few times until I’m finally able to log in with the graphical environment. Then I just put my laptop on standby when I’m not using it.
The drivers appear to be working, but having an issue with the login process.

This issue isn’t present if I boot from a live USB (which uses the free nouveau drivers), so I think you’re right that it’s an issue with the proprietary drivers.

Have you tried enabling modesetting for the driver?

Do I enable it for my hybrid drivers by doing this?
