Black screen with Cross cursor after login page

Hi there I was updating my system when I was logged out and couldn’t log back in. I then rebooted my laptop and Manjaro would not boot with grub outputting the vm/linuz5.4 erorr. I then proceeded to use my USB iso to Chroot and update to the latest kernel and then Manjaro was able to boot. After it booted it would take me to login screen fine but after I logged in it would show a cross (X) cursor and change to a normal cursor while having a black screen. You can use ctrl+alt+f3 to get a tty console but I haven’t been able to fix the black screen. Any suggestions are appreciated
