Black Screen on Login Page, But Still Able to Log In

Hello, after the latest Manjaro update, when I boot my machine, I get a black screen. However, I’m still able to type in my password and log in to my system. The system seems to be working fine as well. It’s just the login screen seems to be blacked out, but still functional.

Just an update with one thing I tried:

Steps

  • On the blacked out login screen, type Ctrl + Alt + F3 to enter tty
  • Log in
  • systemctl restart sddm
  • Ctrl + Alt + F7

Expected Results
I see the login screen.

Actual Results
I see a black screen with a flashing white underscore cursor.

Are there any changes? I’m currently running into a quite similar problem.

Hi @shnasta, and welcome!

Your response was a year later. And necro-bumping is not allowed, nor thread=hijacking. Please see:

Regarding the situation, it just sounds like the background picture for the login screen cannot be found. Double-check all mounts and permissions.
