Black screen at boot and no shell after reboot and chroot problems

I am not entirely sure if it’s my relatively old computer but it became black screen after reboot and update using pamac.

It doesn’t go to Grub bootloader ever since first installation so can’t select old kernels.

There is no terminal showing even if I used Ctrl+Alt+F2/F3/F4/F5 or F6

Tried using live disc and via chroot but I am not sure if they are correct as there are errors showing which I have to change the command. For example, I have to change it to /mnt/@ among others.

As far as I checked, the sda drive is
sda1 - root
sda2 - /home/
sda3 - efi? boot? (I don’t remember exactly but I think I’m leaning more it’s boot as it’s 100MB)

Any help will be appreciated.

Edit: Here’s what I try to do with manjaro-chroot:

[manjaro@manjaro ~]$ su
[manjaro manjaro]# mount /dev/sda1 /mnt
[manjaro manjaro]# mount /dev/sda3 /mnt/boot
mount: /mnt/boot: mount point does not exist.
[manjaro manjaro]# mount /dev/sda3 /mnt/@/boot
[manjaro manjaro]# manjaro-chroot /mnt /bin/bash
mount: /mnt/proc: mount point does not exist.
==> ERROR: failed to setup API filesystems in chroot /mnt
umount: bad usage
Try 'umount --help' for more information.
[manjaro manjaro]# manjaro-chroot /mnt/@ /bin/bash
[manjaro /]#

Hello @ota-coder

Please post also your system summary:

inxi -Fazy

Could be possible it is related to the nvidia renaming. Because the nvidia driver is now a rolling release here.

for x in $(ls /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/); do echo -e "---$x---\n\n $(cat /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/$x)\n\n"; done
for x in $(ls /var/log/ | grep Xorg); do echo -e "---$x---\n\n $(cat /var/log/$x)\n"; done

Thank you for the response @megavolt

Anyway, I actually removed the nvidia driver before you responded and I can finally was able to login.

I am now facing a different problem now as is no internet and cannot detect wired connection or it’s intermittent - which is already offtopic. Will just research how to fix this.

Thanks again!

Hi @megavolt - as I Timeshifted and back to the original black screen (can’t get the wired ethernet to work at all), I decided to get back to the original problem. Anyway, here are the outputs:

Okay, got it to work. The reason behind the last one probably had the ethernet disabled is probably because I also accidentally touched the networking settings when I removed the nvidia-driver-440xx.

I installed nvidia-driver-450xx this time instead of the free version(?) and now, the ethernet and display works.

Thanks either way!
