Black screen and no network after update last night

I installed two systems (win10 & Manjaro) on my laptop. After a long time (maybe 2 months) I updated my Manjaro last night but now I cannot see the GUI after reboot.

I entered the tty3 and tried to update the source but it failed. As I’m using the Chinese interface now the Chinese characters could not be displayed correctly, but seems the host cannot be resolved.

My laptop has an indepentend graphic card. The result of sudo mhwd -l is shown below. I tried to uninstall the nvidia driver but got prompt “config is not installed”

In the grub menu there are four options, kernel 5.10.2-2, 5.4.85-1 and corresponding fallback. I tried all of them and faced the same issue. Please kindly to help, thank you

I’m not allowed to upload the snapshot now. The output of mhwd -l is

| NAME |VERSION|FREEDRIVER|TYPE
| ----------- | ----------- |
| video-nvidia| 2020.11.30 | false | PCI |
| video-linux | 2018.05.04 | true | PCI |
| video-modesetting | 2020.01.13 | true | PCI |
| video-vesa | 2017.03.12 | true | PCI |

I just updated via yay this morning and now I have no network. I’m using my phone to try and figure out how to get some connectivity on my laptop.

Try login to tty (Ctrl+Alt+F2) and then sudo lightdm

Extra information provided here, hope could help

dmesg failed, seems not installed. p.s. ifconfig also not found

I made a fresh install of Manjaro Xfce 20.2.1 using the open Nvidia driver video-linux.
I rebooted and it worked as it should.
Then I installed base devel tools and some 2,8 GB of Software.
I rebooted and ran into the black screen of failing Light Display Manager… again.

Hi ZFS, I read your advice last night and tried. Although still failed, thank you all the same

I think the biggest and first thing I should resolve is the network issue. I saw some other solutions but seems a working pacman is the must

That would not have happened with using timeshift BEFORE doing fatal experiments…

I have a 2TB disk full of Timeshift images, but first it is not recommended to timeshift to a new installed system and secondly, this freaking Xfce installation was two hours old.

Manjaro must be considered momentarily broken for new users.

Manjaro KDE and Plasma Iso do currently both not boot and
with Xfce you got that shurely not for beginners level LDM blues.

What will they do? Take two semesters of linux kernel dev at the university or switch to Snap - I got the power - Ubuntu, Pop or Garuda?

Save the Manjaro Penguins!

Manjaro is burning on a fire that only new users can see, smell and feel the burn.
