Dear experts,
Information: I am running Manjaro XFCE and Windows 10 (2 separate M.2 drives, UEFI) on an AMD system (R9 3900X). The current Manjaro installation is ca. 4 months old. There were 1 or 2 earlier kernels supporting my RX 6700TX GPU but meanwhile these kernels are “unsupported” so I am currently running the kernel 5.14.21-2.
Problem: After a warm reboot from Manjaro, my computer gets stuck at a black screen with only the cursor blinking at the top left corner. That’s very early in the boot process before the POST so no memory/drive information etc. will be displayed. Cold boots are always working with no problems. When I perform a warm reboot from Windows 10 there’s also no problem. I get to see the POST screen and then the Grub boot menu etc.
I can’t tell when that started since I rarely perform warm reboots with Manjaro but as stated above, I have changed the kernel to a newer one once or twice due to an “unsupported kernel” message. It’s just a minor issue and I could live with that. However, it would be very nice if there was a solution. Do you know something? If you need more information please let me know.
Cheers
Hans

P.S.: I had the idea to also provide the mainboard’s debug code and found that it’s A2 (IDE detect). Since it took some time to open the side panel and look up the code, I noticed that at some point the code switched to A0 an the computer actually booted as normal. It takes 35 seconds in state A2 before the boot proceeds. So I just wasn’t patient enough and always initiated a cold reboot before these 35 seconds had passed. But still, this long delay in state A2 only happens with Manjaro but not with Windows.

That kernel is EOL, you should switch to 5.15
(LTS).

The latest LTS kernel offered to me in the kernel settings is 5.10.89.1. That did not work with my RX 9700XT GPU. The other unsupported one is still installed but I don’t use it (will deintsall it in a minute).
5.15 will be the next LTS (even it is not marked yet as LTS)
