Black screen after typing password at startup

hello
i installed the latest iso of the KDE minimal on a new PC.
after Startup i can see the SDDM screen and everything and type my password which leads to a black screen with the mouse cursor visible.
doing ctrl+alt+del brings the ususal:shutdown/restart/log-out etc menu.
after restarting everything works fine.

similar to this issue:

i did chose “start new empty session” in the settings.

it might be the Plymouth issue that happend a few updates ago as @Kobold reminded me. i’ll remove/disable it.

there are no logs related to plymouth…
the only suspicious thing i found is this log related to nvdia:

do you have installed any switching gpu app/widget?
post also output from:
pacman -Qm
ls /etc/modprobe.d
find /etc/X11/ -name "*.conf"

this error seems to be common by looking it up,
Nvidia says it’s more of a warning,but it still causes various issues to people.

pacman -Qm yields nothing

ls /etc/modprobe.d
mhwd-gpu.conf
find /etc/X11/ -name "*.conf"
/etc/X11/mhwd.d/nvidia.conf
/etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/30-touchpad.conf

Yeah, i have this error too… but no real problem from it with my nvidia card.

So did you removed it yet? You still face the blackscreen?

Did you switched between Wayland and X11? (Bottom left in SDDM/Login screen)

Edit:
You could add in Grub:

nvidia_drm.modeset=1

yes i removed it and this time it got stuck after typing the password.

i’ll try Wayland.don’t i need to download some extra packages for it and some other perquisites?

were you not supposed to add it in the first place :smiley:

the error can cause freezes and black screens to some people… and thats the only thing we have…
you no longer need to install any wayland packages… just switch to it in the sddm log in screen… if you still have the same issue, try different kernels…

Thanks for trying to help
i’ll try Wayland and a different Kernel.
it’s weird that one PC is fine and the other has this issue(different hardware though).

also not sure if it’s important,but the display is a projector which doesn’t automatically switches to the source(PC)when it’s turned on,i need to manually choose each time(HDMI-1).

I created this Topic back then, few minutes after the first contact with that error, this was after fresh new stable update (probably because of new nvidia drivers).

I later found out, that this error dont impact my system at all and that this command even required for Hardware acceleration in Firefox, Wayland a.s.o.

i found the issue and a workaround which causes another issue;
as i mentioned the projector(display)doesn’t automatically switch to an active source and also doesn’t remember the last choice(HDMI).
so if i turn on the projector and then the PC and then choose HDMI,then it gets stuck after typing the password,
but if i choose HDMI before turning on the pc, then i can log in normally which causes another issue;
i don’t have sound until i choose another input(HDMI2)and switch back.

weird stuff.

tried another kernel but nothing,
on the other hand with Wayland after typing the password i get a true black screen,projector says no input detected,but after 5+seconds everything comes back and i’m logged in.
