Backlight problem at startup

well, that doesn’t help me either ;). i need to fix this problem. all the best. and thank you for the problem that has now arisen through your “fix” ;).

ok, i fix it. how? plz help @community. i’ll do my best. but as i said - i’m tired (just the work of finding a fix for the fan problem under linux mint demanded everything from me … ). i’m tired of “fixing”. i want to work on my system, that’s all.

Correction - sagwascript’s fix. :ok_hand:

whatever. i don’t want to blame anyone, sorry. i’m co-responsible because i don’t have to do what anyone suggests ;). but i have to to what anyone suggests. because i’m a linux-newbie and must solve problems.

well, i see, the “resume” part is not necessary. i do not use hibernation anyway.

quiet splash

but grub-update gives me an error message. “quiet splash” isn’t working. but, there are other options after the

GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT=

but which option works … .

Check those quotation marks on your syntax.

You want these " ones and not those ones that you’ve been copypasting non-stop so far.

You 've got it!! :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

If you can boot in your system, post these commands output in proper formatting

sudo inxi -SMCpuo
cat /etc/default/grub | grep "CMDLINE"
cat /etc/mkinitcpio.conf | grep  -E ^HOOKS
journalctl -b -p3

To start moving forward from the newbie status, you need to start RTFM when you have some spare time. Like this for example or look through the #technical-issues-and-assistance:tutorials

plz, step by step petsam & signalrunner. i am a linux - newbie. that’s all and that’s fine. i have no problem with this “term”. i am also not a so called “techie”. actually my focus should be on other areas and with windows that wouldn’t be a problem, but it’s enough for me with their telemetry & co. and all the tools against it.

and i’m tired and have the flu. i am exhausted and just need a working system for my homework.

afterwards i can take care of the subtleties in various forums. this is secondary for me now, but it will be primarily if everything runs smoothly and i am healthier again. as i said, i do my best.

but after 2 weeks one distro after another, one forum after another, one problem (fan, cpu-temperature, et cetera) after another (because of my new system) … the switch from windows (since 99) to linux is not as easy as it is propagated by some.

ok, i’ll try this “code” or whatever you call it. i hope this works.

hope it helps :wink: .

Take a closer look to the syntax. Compare first line, with second line. Come on man, you can do it. It is pretty evident at this point and it is better in the long run that you realize it yourself and get used to do it by yourself and all.

It was @GreenMartian fault for this syntax error, but next time be more careful, copy just the required parameters instead of the whole line, etc etc…

plz, i need a solution, that’s all. i don’t need schoolmasters now. for reasons mentioned above. that’s too much for me - now. wait. will come. i’m ill - do you know something about “empathy”?

you and other experts can already read it. and remember: it was the advice of an expert who brought me this problem. syntax or no syntax; for now it’s all about semantics. like richard feynman said: “don’t listen to what i say, listen to what i mean”.

and as i said: later i will take care of the subtleties of a forum. when i have my cognitive abilities again, which are diminished by flu and sleep deprivation.

just because of these technical things - i need a running system to do my work and a OS that doesn’t destroy my new computer (like before regarding the fan/temperature problem)!

all i am interested in is a solution. if you don’t have one, well … . i’m really tired of tech - forums now (and i am since 99 in forums on the way).

solution plz. after this mess. i do not respond to ad hominem arguments anymore.

@noemata your not the first and far from the last that have made this mistake, myself included.
look at the diff:
GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT=“
GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX="

give me a second … sorry. i don’t know what you mean … yes, there is one with “default” and one without “default” and no parameter inside.

So, you are ill enough to fricking read, because that’s all you need here, but you are healthy enough to write all that, edit post 5 times, complain like a madman of everything and all and quote me fricking Richard Feynman? Give me a break man.

You want a good solution? Take an aspirin+ibuprofen, catch a good sleep, and come back tomorrow with renewed strength. Or re-install and restore backup.

ad hominem. that’s what i’m really tired off. solution plz. and empathy. aspirin is not the solution :wink: .

Dude, just copy&paste this and let’s get it over with this, all right?:

GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet resume=UUID=0227c9e1-2b79-484b-9e4f-92afaefd161f"

Hopefully tomorrow you’ll be in better shape and you’ll realize how silly and rude you’ve really been.

? i have already entered this by sudo nano. exactly the same!

GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT=“quiet resume=UUID=0227c9e1-2b79-484b-9e4f-92afaefd161f”

since hours & code just copied straight back out of nano. nothing. command - lines on startup & logout.

@Signalrunner , im starting to wonder if he/she is intentionally being ignorant. @noemata cmon man, if your not intentionally trying to be difficult, i have to say that you have quite the affinity for it.

GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT=“quiet <---this one has ““““““““““““““““““““
GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet <--- this one has """"""""""""""""""""""""

very subtle but different,

jesus…

God damn it, you are a stubborn son of a gun…

Trust me, as I’ve been telling you for about 4 hours straight: IT, IS, NOT, EXACTLY, THE, SAME.

Look at the goddamn quotation marks dude! Look! Yours are tilted! Like I am right now! :rofl:

you could ask him for help also but you might be waiting a while. until then you have a more than capable person that tried to explain the difference in syntax more than once, and then gave up trying to help you help yourself and gave the the correct line to copy and paste and then you reply with “i already tried that” when in fact you did not.
