AUR ocaml4-findlib and ocaml4-ocamlbuild share some files

It has been fixed in AUR, now mldonkey compiles correctly.

It doesnā€™t matter anymore now, but as soon as I had learned that a precompiled version is available
Iā€™d have seized the opportunity, would have spared me the trouble and compile time. :man_shrugging:

The problem is, the compiled version may require dependencies, or just be for another architecture. Plus is a way to include malware.

Yes, of course ā€¦
Created by the same person that you trust when using the PKGBUILDā€™s for ocaml4 and mldonkey and all the other packages ā€¦

ā€¦ you can spot malware sources in AUR PKGBUILDā€™s?
Good on you!

not an actual problem.

I did not try - and I wonā€™t.
It only depends on fairly standard stuff which you very likely already have.

it depends on these: (click to see ...)
depend = file
depend = gd
depend = hicolor-icon-theme
depend = libnatpmp
depend = libminiupnpc.so=18-64
optdepend = librsvg: GUI support

But it is, of course, your decision.
It just would have made the whole endeavour easier for you ā€¦

The result that you get is the very same either way ā€¦

You have a chance of spotting it in the PKGBUILD and source code, at least for the smaller stuff. As do other people, included the trusted users that are meant to glance over the submissions for new users.

A binary may be for convenience or it may be to hide stuff.

Not always.

Also you get the option to edit things if itā€™s not pre-compiled.

I know. Not always.
But in this case: definitely!

because ā€¦ actually look at the maintainer on the AUR page, look at the comment that I mentioned - which leads to the precompiled binary ā€¦

That was my point.
Itā€™s the same person (lolix here in the thread)

Nobody reads anymore ā€¦
(easy for me to say - look at my avatar name :slightly_smiling_face:)

That part was really clarification for future readers who might think itā€™s always the same result.

The AUR havenā€™t changed meanwhile as I havenā€™t changed it meanwhile

It doesnā€™t, this is easy to see, both from AURweb or the pkgbuild itself

Also all related ocaml4* packages are uploaded too

Packages are built on Arch Linux so they are for x86_64 as also evinced from the package name mldonkey-3.2.1-2-x86_64.pkg.tar.zst

Now Iā€™m offended

No, please donā€™t be - at least donā€™t be discouraged!

ā€¦ hope you can manage that

Some people just donā€™t read and/or comprehend ā€¦

too biased / frightened by whatever ā€¦

Iā€™m sure itā€™s nothing personal.

Cheers!
