If system has proprietary nvidia drivers, user should also downgrade linux515-nvidia and linux515-headers to previous version matched to downgraded version of linux515
Command suggested to Install later kernel v6.0 should install all 3 required packages (linux60linux60-nvidialinux60-headers) and update GRUB boot menu to include new kernel alongside downgraded kernel
So far disabling the LTS kernel and using 6.0.11-1 seems to fix my audio issues, with no noticeable downsides yet on Manjaro GNOME (tried YouTube in Firefox, VLC and Clementine)
Just to add that I have exactly the same issue but using pipewire. Restarting wireplumber fixes it for a short time and the sound generally stays as long as for example a video is playing. Iāve tried disabling power management for the sound card but that didnāt make a difference.
Popular opinion here favours the short-term solution of downgrading kernel
In other discussions users chose to upgrade to kernel v6.0, because it is simpler (Manjaro has good tools for managing kernels but not downgrading) and better in the long-term
If the developers are aware of the problems with LTS kernels and pull whatever is causing the audio issue, later versions of LTS kernels will be ok. But it would still take a while for changes to land in Manjaro stable branch packages
Iām in the same boat. If you had the previous linux kernel version installed and havenāt cleared your pacman cache, you should be able to just use sudo downgrade linux515 then select version 5.15.78-1.
However, if you have NVIDIA drivers this will cause problems (because of course), Iām currently trying to figure out how to downgrade all the packages that are conflicting with the minor version change, but IDK if that will be in any way stable or even possible.
Also, just want to confirm, Iām using pipewire so this issue doesnāt seem to be with pulseaudio. Maybe a KDE issue since I havenāt seen anyone say theyāre using GNOME?
EDIT:
In case someone finds this helpful, downgrading the following packages seems to have resolved the issues and keeps me with a stable system (so far). This will differ based on what nvidia drivers you have. DO NOT do this if you can upgrade to linux 6.0 instead as partial downgrades can break a lot of stuff.
The last update did not include any new PulseAudio packages and there have been no reports of issues with PipeWire updates. The confirmed solutions of upgrading or downgrading kernel indicate that the issue is not due to either software sound server
Users can install multiple kernel versions on Manjaro, it is often recommended that users have a 2nd kernel installed as a backup if there is any problem booting to preferred kernel.
If kernel v6.0 works as expected, downgrading v5.15 kernel is not needed. Users can check future updates of kernel v5.15 to determine if it has been fixed
