Asus TUF-Gaming Laptop FX-705DT AMD RYZEN5 Nvidia GTX-1650 GUI Graphics Switch and Driver Setup

I have a Question im looking for a GUI i can use to switch between my hybrid AMD Graphics and my dedicated Nvidia GTX- 1650 Graphics Card im also looking to setup my dedicated graphics card with the correct drivers too thanks in advance for your help

The correct mhwd driver configuration is video-hybrid-amd-nvida-XXXxx-prime (where XXX is the version of your choice).

You can run applications on the NVIDIA GPU using prime-run <program> (install the nvidia-prime package).

If you plan to use the external outputs of the NVIDIA GPU, then the latest version of optimus-manager supports AMD+NVIDIA configurations (optimus-manager-git in the AUR). You can get a simple GUI if you install optimus-manager-qt.

ok i have installed all that but dont know how to install the drivers i used

sudo mhwd -i pci video-nvidia-455xx

but i get an error so whats the correct line to put in

Hi!
The error itself tells you what you need to do.
removing nvidia-450xx-utils breaks dependency ‘nvidia-utils’ required by cuda
Remove nvidia-utils and cuda before the drivers, then
sudo mwhd -r pci video-nvidia-450xx
this would uninstall your nvidia drivers.
Y would recommend a reboot, but it ins’t mandatory.
Then install your hew drivers. The hybrid one works better with the combo amd/nvidia so I would choose that one. Install them with this:
sudo mhwd -i pci video-hybrid-amd-nvidia-455xx-prime

About the use of prime, I have to say that I don’t use prime that way, it would drain your battery because you have both gpu active all the time. I don’t know your workflow, so I don’t know if using prime would be better for you or not, but I’ll tell you my config and the way I use the gpu combo and you can choose whatever is better for you.
I have the same laptop but mine have a 1050 ti. I use optimus-switch to change between gpus, so only one is active. Normally I use the amd one, and when I need the hdmi output or edit/rip video/audio change to the nvidia one.

If your’re using lighdm

If your’re using gmd

If your’re using sddm

I just want to play Star Citizen and Elite Dangerous i just use this computer for gaming really

If you don’t plan on using an external monitor, then just install video-hybrid-amd-nvidia-XXXxx-prime mhwd configuration, and you can run an applications with the nvidia GPU using prime-run <program> (which you can add to the launch options of steam, etc.).

ok all is installed now and working now the thing is now the gui i was told to use is it a button and just switches between the nvidia gpu or amd or is there supposed to be a program that pops up when you try to open the optimus manager

may be in the future ill use a dual screen setup but not at the moment its just for games and writing graphic novels

optimus-manager is a background daemon, it doesn’t have a graphical user interface. There is optimus-manager-qt which adds an icon to the system tray where you can control optimus-manager. Please note, that if you want to run only certain applications on the nvidia GPU, then use the prime-run script.

im using the Nvidia GPU for video games only then switching back to save battery for normal computer activities like surfing the web or watching video or typing a novel the GPU will only be used to play video games
