Asus K73ta laptop xfce Nvidia graphics problem after Jan 2024 update

Hi everyone,
This is beyond my abilities hope some of you could tell me how to fix this problem.
I installed Jan update and now the graphics are acting very weird. Images on web pages are now a solid colour[no image]. Also what appears to be tearing the overall display sometimes 1-2cm other a cross hatching of fine lines 1-2 mm.

All suggestions appreciated.

I notice your first gpu is using the older radeon.

… upon searching it would appears its pre-gcn, so it cannot use amdgpu.

In such a case I might suggest trying to disable the iGPU (in BIOS?) or otherwise make the amdgpu capable card the default (reverse prime?).

In the meantime … I wonder … how does your browser fare using the amdgpu?

DRI_PRIME=1 firefox

(that is assuming prime is working as such … a test can be made;)

glxinfo | grep 'renderer string'
DRI_PRIME=1 glxinfo | grep 'renderer string'

Hi @cscs,
Thanks for the quick response. Disable bios, nope.

 glxinfo | grep 'renderer string'
DRI_PRIME=1 glxinfo | grep 'renderer string'
bash: glxinfo: command not found
bash: glxinfo: command not found

As I said it was working fine before the update.

glxinfo is provided by mesa-utils

What does this mean ?

Can you disable hardware acceleration in your browser and try again? Is the same issue I show in this post?

There was no function to disable iGPU in bios

Hi @Arrababiski,
Vivaldi 6.5.3206.53 (Stable channel) stable (64-bit)
Exactly the same problem, did as you suggested disabled “Use hardware acceleration when available”.
Fixed the problem, now browser slightly less responsive. I’ll just wait for further updates to see if I can reinstate the hardware acceleration.
Thanks.

Good… :slightly_smiling_face:

The culprit seems to be Mesa 23.3.3. I restored timeshift snapshot made just before the update and reapply the update except ten Mesa packages:

You can edit /etc/pacman.conf and add this line to avoid those packages:

IgnorePkg = lib32-libva-mesa-driver lib32-mesa lib32-mesa-vdpau lib32-vulkan-intel lib32-vulkan-radeon libva-mesa-driver mesa mesa-vdpau vulkan-intel vulkan-radeon

If you don’t have a timeshift snaphot, try downgrading mesa packages to 23.1.9.
